How about every planet allows 100 battles before ceasifre happens for 30 minutes.

this would have the following effects:

We are not bound to fixed ceasfiretimes
Everyones games within those 100 battles would count No matter when they happen, not only the last ones. And even the big Units can not steamrole a planet within 2 hours.
Planets and their importance are not synchronised with other planets, making different fronts value differently.

Just a short idea.

open issue, when a planet is already conquered by 55 vs 40 would defenders still come to defend for a game, or would this mean the atackers have to ghostdrop 5 more times? Player behavior is a question and how they probably can abuse the system.

MMh. After 100 battles have been fought, do the defenders activate an impenetrable shield around the planet? :P

I am not sure it would work, for the reason you mentioned. It would still be easier to get back even 5-6 zones compared to 15.. I will tell you what would happen: big units would try to win as quickly as they can as many battles as they can; they will win a considerable amount of the battles, and the defenders would be discouraged, even if they did not get more than 50 wins.

Oh, and what happens if the victories are 50/50?

then make it 99 matches (100 just soudns more awesome) :P
You can say, after a war lasted 99 battles, the attackers retreat, or the defenders just surrender. The current ceasfire is the same, it just triggers the impenetrable sield at a specific time :P

And the issue with big units making many runs still applies, but unlike CWI which makes 6 ownages within one hour being able to conquer a whole planet alone within a short time, 99 matches, will still have all the other matches being a deciding factor, and then everyone around the world would have a valid impact.

But yes an open thing would be: how would attackign/defending be assigned, if we do not have specific capture zones anymore. Maybe random? If we get more modes into CW, it would make some sense.

Or a concept like:
attackers get attacks for the first 30 WINS, because there are 30 cannons on a planet.
the following matches are counter attacks for the defenders, until the original defenders WIN 30 points, because their reinforcements succesfully arrive trying to battle the attackers.
The last X matches until a total of 99 are reched are skirmishes, where the remaining forces now try to wipe each other off the planet.

This would make the entire CW a lot more dynamic, because the situation will varry depending on how the war proceeded on a planet. Every faction will nahve a chance to attack/defend equally.

Further, but not now related to this subject, I would stop the weird idea of having 2 contested planets. I would make only one contested planet. And when one side wins this planet, the border proceeds to the next planet being. chosen form the losing faction. It hardly makes sense, that you can win the attack on a planet past your borders but would totally lose the one in your borders. At least it would be a strange decision to do so.

It would need to be a best of 100. Otherwise, after one faction reaches 51 wins there would be no reason for the other side to continue.

pugs would probably still battle there, or the remaining units just come and make ghostdrops for the ownership. I guess units would mostlikely be the ones stopping to play there since the planet is not priority one anymore. And I also think its very unlikely that a planet will get a 51 on one side.
