I know Mechwarrior Tactics died, and while not really affiliated, I bought the Legendary Founder pack there and that was a solid waste of 120 dollars.

The packs here are pretty expensive, even if I just go ala carte it's not insignificant.

So, player opinion. Is this game going to last long enough for it to be worth investing more money into it?

Well you have a legendary founder's tag which means that you've been invested in this game for 2+ years.

The real question is do you feel that you've played enough to get your money's worth?

Nothing lasts, nothing. It just goes round and round.

I am more concerned with our internet lasting with the campaign to muzzle it with Net Neutrality then if MWO lasts.

After a bunch of us get shifted to the slow lane how will it affect performance. Read up on it and take some action.

For now, I am spending money here. They seem to be doing much better job overall. I promised to buy a pack when Voip comes in and intend on following through.

Ask yourself, do you enjoy the game as it is? If yes, it'll probably go for a few more years (with our without content support). If you're still waiting for your X and Y expectations to be fulfilled, don't bother and save yourself and the community the bitterness.

I'm referring to whether or not it folds, not whether I get certain expectations met.

Yes, I was an early founder, but I haven't played much because of some pretty tough final years at grad school and other things. I want to get back in, but obviously opinions on it are mixed.

I'll buy back in as long as it's not folding. Anything less than folding is good enough for me.

The game is not gonna fold anytime soon, barring natural disasters.

Personally, I expect MWO to last another two or three years at least. The game is constantly improving, the community seems to be quite active for such a niche game and the devs keep communicating. Well, not that much in January, but PGI really deserves a break after their CW crunch time.

And hey, we'll be getting Urbies!

Doesn't matter if it lasts long or not. With the current state of affairs (i.e. broken hit reg, broken MM, broken quirks and pre-beta CW) its not worth putting a single penny into the game. The devs will never start listening to what community needs as long as community keeps feeding them with $$, paying for a product which is broken at best.

Well, it depends on what you want. Why not use founders or other mechs to play some matches and then decide if you dig it or not.

I spent $20 on mechwarrior tactics, and it's a shame it folded.

I've spent $400 on MWO, and after going hard at it for the first year, the dark shadow of 2013 wore me out and I started taking long breaks, followed by little bursts, followed by long breaks. I've gotten my money's worth out of the game, but I don't plan on putting more money into it any time soon. I've got like 70 mechs and 17 open mechbays, so I've got plenty of options when I'm in the mood to play.

Game is still fun, even if I experience frustration with some of the mechanics still.

I have no regrets and I've bought every top tire pack (no golds though) and every Hero mech as well.

Totally depends on how much bang you think you should get for your buck, both in terms of hard cash and time spent.

Will it be gone in 3 months? Unlikely
Will it be here in one year? That's a long time in MMOs
Will it be here in five years? Possibly, but it'll be a very different game by then

If you are worried about losing out on your 'investment' then just go in slow, rather than throwing yourself in the deep end, and don't spend more than you are willing to see gone in a minute. Or try and find a single player, one price, non-mmo mech game to have fun with as those are a more sure return.

If you just wanna enjoy a Mechwarrior title which is online without the old single player campaign, then yes.

If you wanna talk about the game on the forum, point out it's many flaws, complain that this OP and that is not canon, state a hundred times that you're quitting but keep playing, then yes too.

If you're asking if it is pay to win. Just a little bit. Pay to early access may be more appropriate.
