Not sure but, did you mean: "I bought a camouflage unlock and it only lets me use it for 4 mechs?"
If so, permanent camo only applies to that mech (all of its variants), while a one shot only applies to that specific mech variant you have selected (and will be lost if you change it to default or another permanent or one shot camo). Its up to the consumers to decide which is the better value for themselves. (I've bought Raider during the sale for almost all my Wave 1 Clan mechs cause it was a steal and I can change it at will.)
I'm still highly in favor of the warning message to let people know about these differences being put ingame on the camo spec screen in the mech lab.
