I started playing Mechwarrior 3 online in another site but when that site dropped MW3 from their servers I was a bit lost.

It was a long dry spell of not playing Mechwarrior 3 online but then I found out about/was informed of mwomercs.com and I am now in my happy place again.

I agree with the OP too (although I don't buy EVERY package or I'd go broke lol).

We complain from time to time because we care. If we didn't care, we would just leave without a peep.

It is a fun game, despite it's problems. I look forward to playing this game for a long time.

As a person who has been largely absent from the scene for around a year (I would drop back in from time to time) - things have made considerable strides in the last three or so months in the right directions. PGI's separation from IGP seems to have set things back on the right course, and if I'm not mistaken, I'm seeing some new names in the upper rungs of project management. Keeping tabs on the patches when I update, I've noticed a lot more bug-fixing, substantive features and community focus; a lot more of the type of activity we would expect out of an online game.

Honestly, the game as it stands, currently, is the game we should have seen debut into Open Beta (not necessarily the variety of mechs/maps but the community features and what-not) two years ago. While the only thing that can be done about it is to move forward from where it is at - it must be said that the effort to do that is justly regarded as 'fresh.' For nearly two years the game stood as a strange hybrid of shooter/simulator and some variety of card game (Ayakashi Mech Guild - get your collectors' edition TimberWolf while 'supplies' last!). That amounted to a process of content expansion that felt more like a lazy cash grab on the MechWarrior IP than it did anything else - paying mostly to have a 3d collectible to pretend to play a game with.

Which was infuriating for those of us who wanted to play something befitting of the "Online" adjective.

For the time being, though, it does seem as if new winds are blowing in PGI - and I hope they continue in the general direction they are going.

The current CW mode, while basic, is what has been sorely missed for the past two years. The simple addition of a reasonable form of 'respawn' takes the focus off of individual deaths, reducing player frustration. The asymmetric objectives of teams also helps to dispel concerns over death and place focus on accomplishing goals rather than kill counts.

I've noticed far fewer complaints of overpowered/underpowered weapons, I argue, as a direct result of those two simple changes to the game that get people focused on what the team is doing rather than the 'fairness' of the weapons involved. Death isn't an immediate or direct strike against mission/team success so people worry about what causes it less. It becomes an operational hazard.

Example: During the "Clan" whatever weekend they had where it was IS vs Clans in CW... it was actually fun, despite the fact we were getting our asses handed to us as IS players. It was enjoyable to try to succeed against overwhelming odds - all because of the limited 'respawn.' Or, at least, it was enjoyable for a little bit. After a while it was kind of stupid that the only option as an IS player was to make the clan victory as inconvenient as possible (with victory being a nice idea next to winning the lottery) - but this took quite a while.

At the end of the day, though, I am still wary of spending any more money on the game. I'm glad to see that things seem to be moving in the right direction, but it will probably be a year or so before I will consider purchasing anything for MWO - and that is if the trend I'm seeing, now, continues into that time frame. I've spent more money on this game in one 'small' collector pack than most people spend on a single game, and do not feel the developer made an honest effort to deliver on their end of the contract. While, technically, it has finally been fulfilled one year and three months after it was to be delivered with the addition of CW... I believe one can understand my reservations.

I really do hope the 'New PGI' is here to stay... although it could just be that I've been out of the loop for so long that I'm not as aware of the shifting eyes as I was.

In either case - I'll be spending more time with MWO in the near future, at least. Which is an improvement (well, for me, I'm sure some people would rather ******** me with a cactus).

One thing people seem to overlook is how excellent the tactical mechanics of the game are. The graphics and sound, the effects, the laser burn and heat glow, the Let's Drive Big Mechs and Blow Things Up part of the game is so amazing that we are now off to whining about CW and balance and whatnot. I am sure that MW2, especially the GBL pack, did not really have balanced mechs. I remember using cheat codes to get thru GBL. Or forever trying to kill that ******* who was escaping in that dropship. Anyway, it's a really amazing game, they have done a great job of keeping true to the Battletech genre. I spend a LOT of time building mechs, and that's a good thing.

I can definately say that I'm excited for the future of MWO. Been playing off and on since the closed beta, and only the past year have I really gotten really into it (WoW robbed me of a lot of that time, bleh). And the fact that I can still get lots of matches almost any hour of the day really speaks of the dedication of BT fans. Yeah, the game may have stagnated for a while, but I think things are finally looking up. There's so much potential to really make this into the badass game it deserves. Hopefully PGI will keep up the good work.

On a side note, I don't think some people realize that this is still considered a F2P game. The "entire" (minus early access mechs, even then they're only gated for c-bill purchase) is free, and surprisingly free of ads as well. As such, while some people think all these special mechs are nothing but cash grabs, money has to come from somewhere!

I love this game! Mechwarrior was the first PC game I have ever played. I waited Sooooooo long for some one to to make another and here it is. I have no idea what is so appealing about this game but I love it. I have bought every package they have sold and will buy anything they sell in the future. Sure, It annoys the heck out of me when I can't win a single match after 2 or three hours of playing. I can't win all the time . If I did, it wouldn't be much of a game. I hate when I get put on a team full window lickers that gets smashed by a 12 man comp team. I hate that I spent so much money on game packages only to actually use 50% of the content I pay for.
The the next time I log on.... My friends are there. The game is something entirely different. Now we are the 12 man doin the stomping or the 4-7 man that has a 50/50 success rate. Maybe my friends aren't there and I'm kickin azz in the PUG cue because the MM gods are in my favour. This game is very unpredictable at times while others you can read it like a book. It's a great thing to be.

Now I may be in the forums sometimes and I may complain about things from time to time. Despite all that I still love the game. I may say mean things if you see me in game. Sorry in advance, I'm trying to improve on that. Just know that I am thankful for PGI making this game and the players that play it every day. Try to hang in there. Dont't quit playing the game because of a few losses or some aspect of the game you don't agree with. The community has the ability to help the developers make this an even better game than it already is.

Thanks again everyone and hope to see you on the front lines!

I may come and I may go but I'll never leave. As long as there are giant stompy robots to smash I'll keep playing.

I get bored and go play another game for a week or so but I always end up back here.
