Browncoats is a reference to the firefly television series (or the movie Serenity if you prefer). Browncoats was the nickname of those that fought against the Alliance on behalf of the periphery planets in that universe.

Some fans of the series also use it to refer to themselves due to the battle fought to keep the show on the air between diehard fans against the big bad television company fox

First post on MWO ...
Wow game has been in development 2 years +/- !!! HOW THE GORAM did I miss this?! This is as I told my wife one of my top 3 dream games. A BT MMO! Now from what I have gathered thus far there is no player run economy? I guess this keeps the market from being flooded. And no PVE/PVM. I am not a huge PVP fan ... mostly as I will admit I suck at PVP games. But I am a huge fan of what "Brown Coats" stand for ... anti big government/business. I am from the U.S. and sadly here the companies seem to run the government and the country has gotten away from its roots ... IMO. Now I will admit I am grossly rough around the edges. I will quite often offend someone or everyone. I picture myself (RL) as more of a mix between Mal & Jayne. Not huge and buff but always willing to get in a fight for the right reasons even if its on the losing side. ...

Mal:"May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."

Now assuming recruitment is still open (that stupid door is still stuck open btw :( ) I would love to join your band of misfits. I will apply on the BrownCoat site later tonight. I work a 3X12 schedule so my play times tend to be all over the goram place. And we have open wifi at work so I will lurk the sites from my tablet. Also I will at the minimum purchase the $30 founder pack so I get in on the action a little early.

I vote for the "Dos Gringos Dogs of War" Video/song for our Anthem. :P
And ... "I (We) mean to misbehave" for our motto.

Firefly fans.... got to love them.

If you watched the show when it was accutally on TV it might have lasted a season, or more... show of hands who here watched the show when it was on the tele?

*Raises Hand*

Yes, I watched the show when it aired, and knew during the first episode(Train Heist) it could be something great. Despite those "brilliant" people at Fox airing the series out of its intended order(thus depriving us of the backstory on the characters), and putting it on the WORST possible day/time slot for television, I still watched it. Then those same "brilliant" people changed the day the show was aired and then a few weeks later announced the show was going to be cancelled. This isn't an issue of the fanbase not watching the show, it's an issue of the show never getting a fair chance.

I purchased the DVD box set the day it was released, and bought a friend the boxed set as a gift, he's now a browncoat as well...despite having never heard of the show while it was being aired. Funny how if you don't market a show, air it for a few weeks and then decide to cancel it, it dies without ever having had a chance for a fanbase to develop.

Now a show of hands of who saw Serinity in the theater? (which cost 39 Million to make, and only grossed 38 Million world wide box office)
Yes money was made back on DVD sales, but if you want a show to keep going you have to watch, and when they give you a way to put your money where your internet mouth is, you do it. People did not watch Firefly on TV it got canceled, DVD sales were great, triple the TV veiwing ratings, that got it a movie.... ""fans"" did not show up for that either.

Sorry Summer Glau, in tight clothes kicking *** could not keep Firefly alive, I guess Joss Whedon thought, it worked with Buffy (diffrent actresses mostly Gheller and Dushku), but he was wrong. Dollhouse, The Astonishing X-Men motion comic Whedon did, and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, were all better then Firefly/Serinity, but Firefly/Serinity was better then Buffy and Angel, so you should find some comfot there.

I saw Serenity in the theater on opening night, and again a few days later. I did that to attempt to show my support for the show, the truth is this show was a Sci-Fi Space Western, Sci-Fi movies in general only have a niche audience. While it may only have grossed 38 Million, it's important to remember that the movie itself wasn't really that good. Joss Whedon basically tried to condense an entire season into an hour and 40 minutes, a terrible decision. It just wasn't worthy, it has nothing to do with the acting, but several of the key decisions in the script utterly ruined the film for fans of the series.

Then there's the Summer Glau factor

Like the agent said, "That girl is an Albatross"

That statement was eerily prophetic. Every show she goes on dies a tragic death. Firefly, Dollhouse, Terminator:SCC, The Cape...

Having said all of that, Long live Firefly.

*Bumping the Browncoats back up the MCR!*

Great posts Kazzamm and Omega Deity! :) Even after all these years, when someone say how firefly meant to them, can really understand where they're coming from. Firefly gave that sense of wonder that is rare to get in television. What a show.

Hey walkingraven! :D Still alive. Browncoats are always kicking or drinking mudders milk. Either or. To the IMC!!!! :D

TRAAAAPPP!!

I fell in love with it when I accidentally caught the sci-fi channel marathon. So shiny! It was several episodes in, on Janestown, I was hooked. I stopped watching, went in to town and bought the DVD. Watched the whole lot across the rest of the day and night.

I'm still trying to find a Jane hat.

Just got done watching the episode "Serenity" where the Doc and Shepherd came on board.....

Gotta love it --- had the Alliance on them, Reavers, and half the crew was shot - but it's a good day, we're still flying, and that's enough
