Firefly fans.... got to love them.
If you watched the show when it was accutally on TV it might have lasted a season, or more... show of hands who here watched the show when it was on the tele?
*Raises Hand*
Yes, I watched the show when it aired, and knew during the first episode(Train Heist) it could be something great. Despite those "brilliant" people at Fox airing the series out of its intended order(thus depriving us of the backstory on the characters), and putting it on the WORST possible day/time slot for television, I still watched it. Then those same "brilliant" people changed the day the show was aired and then a few weeks later announced the show was going to be cancelled. This isn't an issue of the fanbase not watching the show, it's an issue of the show never getting a fair chance.

Now a show of hands who fell in love with it once it went to DVD?
I purchased the DVD box set the day it was released, and bought a friend the boxed set as a gift, he's now a browncoat as well...despite having never heard of the show while it was being aired. Funny how if you don't market a show, air it for a few weeks and then decide to cancel it, it dies without ever having had a chance for a fanbase to develop.

Now a show of hands of who saw Serinity in the theater? (which cost 39 Million to make, and only grossed 38 Million world wide box office)
Yes money was made back on DVD sales, but if you want a show to keep going you have to watch, and when they give you a way to put your money where your internet mouth is, you do it. People did not watch Firefly on TV it got canceled, DVD sales were great, triple the TV veiwing ratings, that got it a movie.... ""fans"" did not show up for that either.
Sorry Summer Glau, in tight clothes kicking *** could not keep Firefly alive, I guess Joss Whedon thought, it worked with Buffy (diffrent actresses mostly Gheller and Dushku), but he was wrong. Dollhouse, The Astonishing X-Men motion comic Whedon did, and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, were all better then Firefly/Serinity, but Firefly/Serinity was better then Buffy and Angel, so you should find some comfot there.
I saw Serenity in the theater on opening night, and again a few days later. I did that to attempt to show my support for the show, the truth is this show was a Sci-Fi Space Western, Sci-Fi movies in general only have a niche audience. While it may only have grossed 38 Million, it's important to remember that the movie itself wasn't really that good. Joss Whedon basically tried to condense an entire season into an hour and 40 minutes, a terrible decision. It just wasn't worthy, it has nothing to do with the acting, but several of the key decisions in the script utterly ruined the film for fans of the series.
Then there's the Summer Glau factor
Like the agent said, "That girl is an Albatross"
That statement was eerily prophetic. Every show she goes on dies a tragic death. Firefly, Dollhouse, Terminator:SCC, The Cape...
Having said all of that, Long live Firefly.
