I was an 0811 (artillary) in the USMC, we had 155MM guns, (approx.) the same size as the one in the video. The rounds had no where near the explosive effect as that, WTF kind of rounds is that thing firing? Seriously looks like a nuclear detonation...

That's because it is indeed a nuclear shell :P Not sure the caliber but I remember it from a document on wiki somewhere.

Well, at least it is a better idea than the Davy Crockett. I'd hate to be the guy ordered to use that thing.

I'd love for there to be an incredibly low chance for a Fusion Core breach. It would really make the game crazy sometimes in a good way. Like maybe a 1% chance or less. It does happen in the lore too.

"Such dramatic failures are rare, though. It is difficult to sustain the fusion reaction and very easy to shut down. Safety systems or damage to containment coils will almost always shut down the engine before such an explosion occurs. The massive shielding of the engine (in the case of standard fusion engines, this is a tungsten carbide shell that accounts for over 2/3 of the weight of the engine) usually buys the safety systems the milliseconds needed to shutdown the engine when severe damage is inflicted."

Also those JJ's

Nope, that was US Nuke field testing on 240mm or 280mm cannon with tactical nuke about 5 to 15 kTons down in early 60's. 155mm howitzers ain't got nukes, 203mm cannons does.
Long Tom is cluster charge/shell cannon, more like tomohawk missile.

I'd love to see that.

Epic brawl between two assaults, one gets cored out, goes critical, other assault can't get out of the blast radius in time.

As you said, should be a really small chance though or we'd see suicide bomber light packs faster than you could say "ppc/gauss".

In the TT game, you can't get the fusion reactor to blow up, it's not actually part of the rules and it's not something that happens, nor should it. Part of the attraction of fusion reactors is that they DON'T go all nuclear boomy. Now, a containment breach should produce one hell of a show, but not a nuclear reaction explosion, just the more 'common' reaction of superheated plasma hitting 'cold' material as it jets out of the containment vessel, which is a rather energetic process, albeit rather short lived and short ranged. You won't be blowing up the Mech next to you, but you might do some serious damage to them when parts of your Mech, molten and burning, splatter it, like causing joints to seize up as the molten metal cools, ie - it LOOKS really nasty but it's not.

BTech HAS nuclear weapons, there's even the Ares Conventions which discusses where they can be used(not within 75,000km of a planet, never on civilian targets regardless), but those aren't actually followed by the time we're playing in, but the 'Honors of War' from the 3rd Succession Wars generally uses the same rules and are generally followed. Nukes just aren't used, doing so means the entire IS will join together to eliminate whomever used them, but every House has them, just in case you know...
