The Capellan Way

I despise democracy. Democracy is the tyranny of the majority and the majority are not very intelligent or well educated, incapable of ruling themselves efficiently, do not know what they truly want, and often take courses of action contrary to their own well being. None of this is new, having been debated by the Greeks a couple of thousand years ago and revisited again prominently during the revolutionary writings of the Enlightenment. The ideal is rule by benevolent philosopher kings; the most fit to rule; in other words a meritocracy. That meritocracy is the Capellan Confederation: http://www.sarna.net..._and_Philosophy

However, humans, being weak, are naturally plagued by fears and some fear that the very dictatorial powers which enable "the most fit" to rule could be usurped by one of the "unfit". In brief, the Sarna Mandate covers this possibility, "If a leader is found to be utterly incompetent, then they are considered to have lost the right to rule and should be removed or deposed." Furthermore, the Capellan Way (used here to encompass both philosophy and culture) encourages (which is not a strong enough word), a strong sense of civic duty from a young age. Those lacking that sense of duty are weeded out and soon destined for the servitor class.

There are no guarantees in life and nothing is perfect, but I find the Capellan Confederation to be as close to ideal as one could hope. It is interesting that some people consider them to be the villains and have stated they joined for that reason, even making parody posts. From that, an interesting dilemma has emerged. There is one group of mechwarriors, in particular, who have a proven track record of military prowess. This group could be utilized to further the goals of the Confederation by dealing with external threats. However, this same group has demonstrated a lack of understanding of the Capellan Way, even going so far as to hold mock elections. Their past record also calls into question their sense of civic duty. To whom does their primary loyalty lie: to the Capellan Confederation or their own organization? The danger is that by accepting their help we exchange an external threat for an internal one.

While it is not my place to speak for Chancellor Romano, I lack her perspective, training, and judgment; I am curious how you think she will handle this situation. I see three possibilities:

- She executes all of them, considering the internal security of the state to be of higher priority than the external.
- She utilizes their strength to defeat our enemies abroad, and then she executes them.
- She utilizes their strength against our enemies, hoping that they become indoctrinated into the Capellan Way, and those that fail to do so, she executes.

Expected thread trajectory:

1. People post about how terrible goons are
2. Goons post gibberish
3. Adridos happens. Again.
4. Repeat 1 through three for several pages
5. Mod locks thread.

Basically you are bad at forums.

One would think that that dreadful bugbear, the Goon-Baiting Post would be beneath most people.

Most, but not all.

How do you not know Danger 5!

Also, when can we expect LosTech to be added? The Axeman would be so much better with a Victory Chainsaw.

Who is this group you speak of, and what are you trying to infer? Seems you are suggesting that some people that vote for a leader are ostensibly ineligible from making an informed decision based on the democratic nature by which they chose to elect their leader. Is this correct?

What is this Danger 5 you're talking about? I thought we were roleplaying totalitarianism.

P.S. Good guess, but "several pages" didn't happen. It never made it past page 1.
