Pretty important, fat kat company on a happenin' planet. :D

It's in the periphery (Outworlds Alliance)
It makes farm equipment, petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals when it's not mining and refining. :D

Resistance to the buy out wasn't about the money, it was about the Reunification War. :D

Kitk, you're right, but they also build engines. And they have a large mining division. With ComStar in charge, you never know what they're going to do.

I was never much into the Battletech lore, but everyone seems to hate on Comstar a bit much. Are they the Microsoft of the future? haha

Alliance Industries Diversified

Posted Image

Posted ImageAlliance Industries Diversified
Alliance Industries Diversified is an industrial and mining company within the Outworlds Alliance.

Alliance Industries Diversified (AID) started out as a mining company, but diversified in the 2600s into other industries. While AID was the only surviving major industrial concern after the Reunification War, constant attacks from renegades and pirates during the Succession Wars have destroyed many of its production centers. Even with many government subsidies, the company has a hard time remaining profitable in any given year.

In 3025, The Outworlds Alliance government was considering giving Comstar permission to purchase Alliance Industries Diversified in an effort to rebuild the firm. The proposal has generated a lot of resistance to the idea, but the government does not want the company to disappear completely.

Here is something about ComStar

Which engine do they make? I only had Sarna for a source on this one. Usually they are spot-on but...

Either way its hillarious as one of those non-news type headlines. In 3049 who would bloody care!

As you say though - "in Comstar's hands"...in about 20 years...BOOM.

just drop comstar in to the wike. to summarize. started off good, leader died. new guy is a complete dick, starts a religious hierarchy, turns every thing to ****. thus a new telecom is made. any one company having a monopoly on Telecommunication is never good. tho this is "Unit of Currency: C-bill (1 C-bill = 1 second of text-only HPG transmission time)"

They're more like a galaxy-wide internet, cellphone and telephone provider with no real way to live or even rule an empire without services they provide. And to make it even more fun - they got their own, very powerful army and (sick!) religion.
Microsoft is nothing comparing to ComStar.

Comstar itself isn't a bad organization. In separating themselves from the Succession conflicts, Jerome Blake ensured that humanity wouldn't devolve to the Stone Age. To do this, Jerome Blake and his followers secured and hid as much Star League 'mech and technology caches as they could find. The problems began after his death when Comstar technicians elevated him to the level of a saint and started venerating the technology that they were guarding. It became worse when the general consensus within Comstar was that heathens who didn't adhere to the blessed Blake's vision shouldn't be in possession of advanced technology. Thus through the Succession Wars, Blakist would destroy information or technology they believed should not be in the hands of the Successor Lords. This worship of Blake lead up to the formation of the Word of Blake and all the evil that followed.

So to summarize, Comstar = good, Word of Blake = bad.
