Hi folks,

I need some advice regarding a BJ-3 loadout. This mech is one of the most played mechs I own, however it's also one of the worst perfoming mechs. I keep trying, changing the loadout again and again but nothing seems to really work well.
I started playing Blackjacks before the jump jet "nerves". I used the BJ-1 with great success with an AC20 for some short range poptarting. I later tried to replicate this with the BJ-3 with 2 LPL and 4 SL. It worked okay, not as good as the BJ-1 with the AC20, but it was fun. Today, we've got a different jump jet mechanic and mech quirks. Therefore, I changed the BJ-3 loadout to 2 PPC, 2 ML and reduced engine size to be able to equip 4 JJ.
Either PPCs are just not the right weapon for me, or I got issues with hit reg, or my loadout is not optimal. Facts is, 2 PPC somehow lack the punch I need. Of course I'm not always poptarting with the BJ-3. More often than not I have to fight the traditional way. But I prefer some solid cover between me and the opponents as the BJ is as feeble as any light (without the speed advantage).
Or maybe I'm spoiled by playing alot with light mechs lately? Maybe my playstyle changed too much?

Please let me know your BJ-3 loadouts and playstyles! :)

Just because stock had 2PPC does not mean you need 2PPC.

If you want better heat management, just go a bit slower.

The BJ-3 is not the TDR-9S or some other Energy quirked Mechs like the BJ-1X, there is no Heat Quirk much like how the BJ-1DC got no Ballistic Heat Quirk as the BJ-1 got.

Though it is odd, the non-jumping -1X got a Heat Quirk over the -3 but the jumping -1 with less Energy thus heat got a Heat Quirk over the non-jump -1DC.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...38516e28ae20d42 BJ-3 Nuke build. Play it sortof like a light, never enter a slugfest, attack from 45 degrees or more for best results. I call it the nuke build because it makes lights disappear quickly. Have had great success with it, posting 700+ consistently. Hope it helps :D

I ignore the weapon specific quirks unless they are significant, like on the TDR-9S ERPPC quirks.

If you're no good with PPCs, the quirk bonus on the BJ-3 are not worth it for you.

I run my BJ-3 very similar to my 1X, 2 LL laser and 4 ML.

that's pretty much what I used before. I decreased engine size for the 4th JJ tho. As LPL and PPC both are 7 tons heavy, one can easily switch weapon types.

The Blackjack is pretty frail, yeah. If you're peeking/poptarting a lot and don't have good torso twist reflexes, you'll find you get cored frequently- but if you've got good twisting responses, you can mount a Standard engine and squeeze a surprising amount of extra durability out of the thing, particularly given the engine size means an XL engine isn't all that much weight savings.

I run mine as the BJ-3 Sap, and it works out quite nicely with the ERLL on the upper arm slots- this lets it hill-peek with the likes of the Jager and the right-torso energy Thuds, and restraining myself to using ONLY the ERLLs or ONLY the MLs at any given point means I have a lot of beams to throw out before overheating is really a concern.

Don't worry too much about the weapon-specific quirks on a 'mech unless they're really, really big- virtually every weapon-specific quirk (like PPC range) is accompanied by a generic quirk (Energy range would accompany PPC range) of an equal strength. If you're debating choosing between two weapons and one of them has the specific quirk, then go for it, but if the one with the specific quirk isn't a good match for your habits/playstyle/skills, then just don't worry about it.
