The "best" build is most likely still the 3xUAC5 with 2-3 ML depending on your preference.

I know some others use gauss/ERPPC combos.

I personally like using 3xLB10X. But that is NOT the best build, just something that is fun to play occasionally.

Depends on your preference. I run 3 UAC5s+3 MPLAS to pretty good effect, 2 AC10s and 2 LLAS also work fairly well with the quirks and modules of the Ilya.

Triple gauss used to be my favorite, closely followed by triple LBX. But, triple gauss won't work anymore :/ Neither of these were BEST, mind you - just the most fun for ME. Triple UAC5 is probably still best, although triple AC5 is good too.

I use Dual Gauss with 2 Medium Laser as backup.

Deadly mech, just epic good.

I use mine with 3xac5 and 2xLL. Pretty good at all ranges unless someone gets right up on you. Also the 3xlbx10 is a blast to play. The amount of damage you can put out in a game with a little practice is wild, but as others have said, its not the most competative. Its just a whole load of fun!

Here's the 3x LB 10-X AC build and yes it's fun but not as effective as the 3x UAC-5 build. I've been averaging 500-700 damage in it in decent matches. There is a slight range quirk to the AC10 but not worthwhile IMHO.

Triple AC/5 + 3ML's/MPL's will be the optimal build for the Ilya come Tuesday. I'd been running it beforehand anyhow. Longer range, less heat, more ammo, better sustainable damage on the battlefield. UAC/5's were the go-to for some time, but then along came the clans, the quirks, and what-not.

3xUAC5 + 3 ML until Tuesday.

Then it gets quirked for 3AC5 + 3ML, and we use the extra tonnage on a bigger engine and an extra ton of ammo.

Trip UAC or Trip AC5 + backup lasers is probably still the best build

As of tomorrow the Ilya is getting AC5 quirks. 15% AC5 cooldown, plus a buff to the ML quirks. Just an FYI

Do AC5 quirks affect UAC5's?

well, 7.5% is to ballistics, and 7.5% is to AC5 specifically, So UAC5 will get a 7.5% cooldown reduction

I've just rebuilt my Ilya after the AC5 quirk and I haven't given it a try just yet. I still think that the UAC5 build will be a stronger build as far as DPS goes but if it's a triple UAC5 build you're looking for, you have to check out the JM6-DD with it's UAC5 Quirks + UAC5 Cooldown Module.
*Edited for clarification: The below is the Jager quirks.

  • Additional Structure (LT&RT) +7

  • UAC/5 Range +7.5%

  • UAC/5 Range +7.5%
  • Ballistic Weapon Range +7.5%
  • UAC/5 Cooldown +7.5%
  • Ballistic Weapon Cooldown +7.5%
If you're looking for the best build specific to the Ilya, I'm going to bet it's the Triple AC5 build.

Here are the Ilya Quirks Additional Structure (LT&RT) +7
  • Additional Structure (RA&LA) +5
  • AC/5 Cooldown +7.5%
  • Ballistic Cooldown +7.5%
  • Medium Laser Cooldown +7.5%
  • Energy Cooldown +7.5%
  • Medium Laser Duration -7.5%
  • Laser Duration -7.5%

It has a AC5 quirk, not the UAC5. This means that the cooldown and range of the AC5 is +15%... the UAC5 only gets +7,5% from the quirks.

Having tried both, I'm not convinced that 3AC5s with quirks and modules is better than the old 3UAC5s.

Same conclusion - I tried a few games with it today and I still think the UAC5 build has better DPS even with the jam rate. (No macros, just good old rhythmic finger tapping)

I actually like it better, even if it does have a bit less DPS. I loathe the jamming mechanic on Ultra weapons. So I avoid them beyond some macro fun if I am in the mood for trolling and giggles.
