If damage exceeds the damage it inflicts to a section, the remaining damage is transferred to the next component. This continues until you eat 100% of the damage, or die.
This is why I love C.A.S.E. Put your ammo in there, and no more ammo explosion deaths.

Any word on how ammo magazine explosions are being handled.
Assume ammo magazines explode here are my questions:
Assume ammo magazines explode here are my questions:
- If ammo is hit or if the location containing it is destroyed will it explode and cause additional damage?
- Is magazine explosion damage still based on how many rounds you have in the magazine multiplied by the damage generated by each round? I.E. is having a full ton of mg ammo cooking off in your left torso still a death sentence?
- Does over heating a mech come with the risk of causing the ammo in your mechs magazine to have a chance of detonating?
- Does an exploding mech be it a case of exploding ammo or collapsing fusion bottle do splash damage?
1.If the ammo is directly hit by a critical it will explode. If the torso is destroyed by other fire the ammo will not explode. Ammo in 1 slot exploding will not cause ammo in another spot to explode, but you will lose it anyway when the section goes bye bye.
2. Dunno. Most people have plenty ammo left for it not to matter.
Gauss Rifles have a fixed damage amount though.
We could test it with a gun with only 1 ton of ammo, use up all but a few rounds and then try and cook it off with energy weapon fire.and see what happens/ happens differently. Testing Grounds is not 100% accurate to in game damage model yet though.
3. Yes. if you fire during an override you will do damage to your internal structure. I assume it can crit.. I have blown myself up PPCing like a crazy man at range and detonated my SRM ammo in a a Commando (SRM ammo was in CT) 2 days ago.
4. Doesn't seem so. I get SRM ammo crits on people pretty often.... if they launch 1 more volley before they go though.... Reactors in MWO don't go boom.
