The Shadowhawk 2H and Wolverine 6R are both irredeemably bad, even with quirks.
Well, it's not that you can't do well in the SHD-2H so much as you could do so much better in the others. There is no build that uses all 3 ballistic slots (its only distinguishing characteristic) that wouldn't be improved by not using them and getting a different hardpoint or two instead.
The WVR-6R I don't even need to get into. Same with the LCT-1V.
That leaves the GRF-1N, TDR-5S and BLR-1G, which are all viable and leave 35 tons remaining if you take all three. The question is whether you get more LP using them with the 10% bonus than you would using other mechs without.

Considering the majority of the Phoenix Pack variants are terrible AND the bonus is paltry... just worry about good mechs/variants and not the Phoenix variants.
For something that was sold a year and half and released only a year and 2 months before CW... it doesn't have much lasting value in the first place.
I don't know what to tell you other than asking PGI to change the "preferred variant" after the fact or something. Right now, the ROI is atrocious. I doubt that will change soon.

I think paul posted that you only need one to get the bonus. The cbill bonus from hero mechs affects only that portion of the fight but the LP bonus can't be separated so it affects all of it. Or maybe that was xp boosts. I forget.
