Down With Terra Therma And Alpine Peaks

Sure they put a lot of time into designing them with the intricate hit-boxes and whatnot but I honestly cannot stand either map (terra therma more so).
Terra is just a rush to middle, which also is the frikkin hottest part of the map like in caustic valley, but at least caustic can be fun because if you can out rotate(nascar-ing) the enemy team you've got a really good chance of winning. But in Terra when you have a decent lance of 4 plus 8 newbies or worse yet noobs it makes it a generally crappy experience because the entrances are always clogged with pilots that dont know what to do and with cold feet.
Alpine just seems to be a rush to the middle hill to duke it out. The temperature is nice but your rather handicapped if your a brawler build on that map.
In conclusion my question is would anyone like to see those maps dead and gone forever or are people not really bothered and just wanna play, because I would pay money to see those maps hung, drawn and quartered like mel gibson in bravehart!

Alpine is a hot (cold?) mess save for in conquest mode. That map is great for multi objective based combat, with all the space it has, but for any other mode, it devolves a into race for the 'best terrain'. Any map that has the problem is fundamentally a bad map. One of the reasons I like Viridian and HPG....there is no "Best Terrain".

Lop sided
nothing but choke points on one side and a giant open exposed area on the other.
one team has a disadvantage based entirely on what the other team has. LRMs will shred one team, but render the other useless if they don't have it.
just a ******* mess of a map.
At least with Alpine peaks and Therma you have a lot of space to move around even if its not used. Forest colony has no space to move at all.

It's not the maps, its the lack of coordination of the players on it. Go someplace else. I've had many successful defenses and attacks on those maps in not so common places.

P.S. Sure, the map could be better, but it's the fault of the players if they refuse to use the other areas of the map.

But players are so bad in general they only know how to lemming hte middle....so, naturally, since this game is all about mutually supporting and covering each other in hopes that the enemy doesnt point his 90pt PPFLD at you..everyone death balls together, 1 right behind the other.
If Mordor and Alpine were in MW4, or Mechcommander or something, they would be great maps. While mordor sucks for its heat hits, not every map can be a freezing cauldron of never ending fire.....

Yeah, if I could banish maps, it would be the original maps....Forest, River City, Frozen City....
Alpine is a map for 12v12....the originals are maybe 4v4...

Alpine has the 11-line which is lols.
Terra has nice lanes you can sucker the other team into trickling into if you can get your cats to herd.

Alpine is a rough map though. But I think what is rough about it is the fight always take place on the one hill. It doesn't have too but that is where everyone gravitates to. I've had really fun fights on the map where the action was elsewhere...
Now if you want a badly designed map look no further than forest colony. On the right is a very small cave tunnel that funnels you to death. In the middle is a area completely lacking in any cover and on the left wide open water with little cover. There really is no variation on this map honestly...

Alpine is actually kinda cool. Down south it has those rolling hills, its got several small bases on it. I kinda like it, once I took the time to plod 64.8Kph across it for 30-40 minutes just checkin the scenery.
and yeah, Forest Colony sucks........major big time...with 1x ranges and 8v8, prolly less so, but as it is now, it blows.

Alpine - Needs more varied terrain. Central hill needs smaller/split ridge to climb up (multiple pathways instead of just 1 large pathway or the ridiculously steep ridge on the other side. Evergreen forests need to be added with large, solid treetrunks, covering at least mediums and possibly the smaller heavies as well to allow flanking maneuvers, possibly partial foliage coverage by branches. Northwest and South/Southeast areas (as well as the northeast base) need to be more used parts of the map. The central hill needs to be a major de-focused part of the map while still useful.
----------------------------------------------
Larger maps need to be created for focus on 12 v 12. Some of the older ones still work, like Canyon Network. But maps like Forest Colony need to be a 8v8 max map.
Map categories
-12/8 man maps
-8/4 man maps
-12/8 man maps that have been repurposed and 'cut down' to accommodate 4 man teams.
Sub sections of the maps, like Alpine's southern half could be used for smaller games. New 'barriers' could be constructed that limit the map sectioning it off and reducing its size. The southern part of Alpine is a good example as it has many small hills that provide good cover for single lance on lance warfare.

Like, if you ignore the hill and just have your entire team walk in single file at the bottom of the cliff south of it, you get to have your entire team fire at each mech up top as they try to play peekaboo. 12 vs 1 > partial cover. Then when they get sick of bad trades, they drop down and run around the corner one by one.
Or you can just sort of run up the hill and push the people trying to hold it right off the cliff. I've seen that happen *so many times*.
