I have a couple videos up with track ir:
I have a bunch more if you guys are interested but I would have to upload them. I'll find a good stormcrow match to upload, since that mech has a good cockpit for it.
The awesomeness of head tracking depends greatly on the cockpit. I use the Hunchback a lot, and there isn't really much use to head movement, except to maybe look upward at missiles.
Track ir is intuitive but is something that has to be learned, like a joystick. It took me several months, but by now I'm very precise with it. Even so, I still don't always keep my crosshairs dead ahead in the deadzone when I need to. But I've also learned to compensate my aim for it as well.
It seems like a hindrance at first, but when I turn it off now it's really distracting, at the very least.

Really cool videos! I really should give it a try again, I only used headtracking for a day and found the UI following ym head to be very disorientating. If they just made the 6 recharge bars around the target retecule static it would help so much!

Why stop at headtracking when you could go all-out with the nuerohelmet add-on or even the nueral implants that many clans (except clan wolf) use.

I find that enabling Track IR causes my mouse accuracy to drop considerably. It no longer is smooth but instead jerky and skippy. So, because of this, I have to leave Track IR disabled.

There are some things you can do to help your aim with Track IR. There is a hotkey to pause and center the head-tracking (I don't use it). Also, you can set up a pretty big dead zone, which is what I did. And then over a few months I decreased the dead zone incrementally.

Yes, Track IR is very weird with the armlock. I keep it on and it doesn't cause any problems, but when I have to unlock the arms it feels really buggy

Here is a video of the Stormcrow. It is by far my favorite mech to use with Track IR, and it feels like it adds to situational awareness. Even if not, somehow, it's a lot more fun

^^ Stormcrow is one of the best, if not the best, 'mech for this. I have cockpit visibility as one of the criterias for selecting 'mechs to buy these days. One of the bigger criteria really.
I keep my arms locked unless I need them, so I can't say for sure. My mouse seems to work smootly, locked or not, though.
Sorry for delayed response on my part as well. My interest in MWO and any games really tend to be periodical. Circulated to other games for some months. Anyways, never really became second nature for me, or at least hasn't thus far. I suspect the HUD thing is pretty big part of it, but also wrapping my head around that many axes of movement is simply complicated when I am so conditioned to using mouse to look around. I haven't learned to turn torso to shield my vulnerable side while keeping my eyes on the target for example. I have learned some lesser things like scanning the skies for missiles and UAVs as well as turning torso and then turning my head to take a quick peek behind me. Almost have mastered keeping my crosshairs on target while checking my direction of travel to make sure I'm not walking into an obstacle.
I think it will never be as useful in this game as in flight sims, but it adds immersion if nothing else, so I keep using it. Also works with Opentrack 2.3 in these days. This is good because 2.3 has better mapping options than 2.2.
