Monday being a fed holiday, I'm getting my BT group together to try and run through the Alpha Strike rules for the first time. After spending so much time in the original ruleset, these rules just feel so... simple. I'm curious to see what other people think about these rules. Obviously it's a rehash of the Quick Strike rules with a bit extra fluff, but it's a far cry from the tabletop game that's been around for decades.
Thoughts anyone? Any advice for starting out in this ruleset for the first time? We're sticking to using 3025 TRO stocks, and I'll probably front my group a warchest of about 500 points this first time out.

You can quickly play through alot of matches with high numbers of mechs imho.
Just limit the number of mechs with a certain special ability (the one that gives initiative bonuses). I know at least one Raven variant has it.
Otherwise you just need to like to play BattleTech as a tabletop (I am still favoring the hex-based game).
Have fun and write about your experience with it.

Will do. I am switching from inches-to-hexes for this campaign as well. Much prefer that idea than the "No, I'm 8.1 inches away, you can't hit me!!" arguments.

going for hexes makes sense
we also changed the firing rules slightly to increase the number of dice rolled for the shots, just because high damage mechs had such an easy single roll to miss completely

So after a week's worth of prep-work... my son gets the flu. Game canceled. Bah.
To be rescheduled.
