Will there be constant servers doing a rotation of maps that people join, or will people simply click the "launch" button to be racked and stacked into a game? Any information, thoughts? Thanks

Something similar to World of Tanks would suffice, as it is effective and easy, using tier and type to organise players into games, matchmaking is not always perfect though.

Oh please god no, WoT failed at match making due to the fact that almost every damn game one of the teams had it better off.

Anything but how CoD does it now. It's just a mess.

Give out a simple list of games and maps available to your faction and go. Have a quick launch button for a random game. Let us 'group' up and form lances that move as a whole from game to game that way we can play with our friends easily.

Matchmaking is fine as long as its handled correctly, but im not discrediting using games lists either as its the most versatile option. Grouping up with friends will surely be implemented as well.

It will be difficult if they allow a full 12 premade group but if they allow up to a maximum of 4 players in one premade group then the system can pick out randoms + groups to better match it up. For example, it will pick 1 premade group of 4 for each team then randomize the rest. Simplistic but you get the idea. Anyway, I do hope they let us group up with at least 3 other people.

WoT matchmaking is one of the worst there is, they claim to eliminate queing time by making the MM as simple as possible. Still it ends up in ridiculous matchups almost every single game!
I was hoping that they might include some sort of "hidden value" like starcraft does, so basically if you have an over average win rate/kills/whatever your value increases. I assume that this would be difficult and costly to implement.

Whatever happens I just hope that server/game rooms can be set to "private" for league and unit play to keep the griefers out. If not, its going to suck. I dont see how you can have a competitive league game with some unknown rookies screwing up the game plan.

I hope there is some kind of sorting by "rating" (whether that value is open of hidden) to allow people to get in a decent match of comparable skill levels most of the time. Speaking as a very casual player I much prefer to be separated from the really dedicated players and their finely honed twitchery; I can't keep up with them and getting repeatedly stomped reduces my fun.

I'm thinking a LoL style ELO system, you get a number based on not win/loss but how you perform within each game and are matched with similar numbers. maybe make it a hidden value.

I imagine there will be some sort of lobby and you can team up with your friends and then get fit into a game. Might be a little bit of a wait to find matches but not long I hope. I plan on playing with my gaming group and we already have 2 lances ready to go with an idea of who will be piloting which mechs. Community Warfare is a pillar.

this discussion will go no where.
as people will compare it to WoT.

WoT MM works great.
everyone who whines about it just wants it all easy.
mathamatically speaking in WoT you will be on the top tier perhaps 25% of the time. more if your tier 8-9-10.
but the people who complain about MM in WoT are generally poor players, and in my prediction, they will complain about MWO MM just as much. ******** will always whine, a complainer will complain about everthing, even the weather.
WoT MM has one or two glitchy tanks, (matilda with a tier 3 gun, gets put up against tier 7-8 tanks who can support as high as tier 9 guns, for example)

but back to MWO,
there will be just as much negative feeback over this MM too.
in fact i predict there will be even more.

my logic is simple,
most whiners are fairly negative people, and negative people dont mix well in groups. so they solo quite a bit. and MWO is goign to be geared toward group play, (which i like) so MM will be one (or moe) clusters of people in a hat room, group up and jump into a random battle. if they face another group of less organized temates, they will probably get worked over quite quickly, and the lone wolves who are added to populate the battle will work with nobody, so they will almost always preform poorly. and said lone wolf will probably rant about it on the forums.

that is my prediction....

flame if you want to.

The WoT MMer is designed to feed lower tiers to high tiers...It's the Money Maker for WGing. This is not a complaint, its something that is. The MMer in WoT has a specific job and in MWO it just doesn't fit...

Tiers 1-3 are fine
Tiers 4-6 are food
Tiers 7-10 are the eaters.

Now back to MWO
  • Tiers DON'T EXIST.
  • Each Mech should have a BV associated and the MMer should be able to take and assign a BV to mech and make matchs...
  • Each Mech Class is found in the cannon at certian %... Will it work, don't know.
    • Lights 30%(4)
    • Medium 40%(5)
    • Heavy 20%(2)
    • Assault 10%(1)
  • Players need control of locations

Just some thoughts, i don't know what the DEVs are thinking, just pray they learn from WoT about something NOT to do...

For what i know of, i've seen an oficial interview on a magazine somewhere (appolagies but you will have to search for it) that Russ said matchmaking will be similar to party making in the Xbox, which, despite many features that i hate in the Xbox, that is one of the few that i actually like and was happy to see the Devs are trying to put all the best in all worlds to give us a good experience.

This is not the original link that i saw but again Russ confirms that we can group up and go into a match as a team. If you're talking how the actual matchmaking will be i have no ideia only the beta testers know and they cant talk about due to NDA.
