I'm not sure if it is just temporary because of the ceasefire on CW right now but the difference between queuing up solo or as a 2 man is like night and day. I'm guessing when you solo queue you only are grouped with other solo players and when you group up any size at all you are thrown to the tryhards.

The amount of stomps that happen in the group queue are way higher than I noticed in the solo queue as well. I'm guessing there is no attempt at all to match 8-12 man groups with other 8-12 mans on the other side because it seems just as likely to have 6 different 2 man groups against 10 man + 2 man groups.

Duo queuing with a friend meant being on one side or other of a total stompfest (usually the losing side since we were the minimum group size. Having just come back from the game and getting dumped into the bottom of tier 4 I find it really difficult to believe that 10 man on the other side is made up of tier 4ish pilots as well. Do they just throw out pilot tier the second you queue with one friend? Was that 10 man Kurita group from unit [BEER] really some tier 4 pilots because they sure stomped my team of no larger than a 4 man last night. Kudos to them though!

Just trying to get a better sense of the way this works. Like I said it was a jarring difference. I had a 1000+ dmg game in a King Crab last night solo queuing and a 595 damage locust game a couple nights ago solo queuing where I was the highest match score/dmg on the team in a locust. People didn't even bother turning around as I cored out their back with my small pulses. Then I drop with a buddy and the second I try to scout the enemy team they have ECM/NARC/LRM coordination..

The way it seems right now is if I solo drop it's pretty darn easy to carry and win, BUT if I duo queue my win% drops dramatically (like from 70% to 10%) as I usually face much larger groups.

Anyone else run into the same? Mostly related to CW being down or is this just the way things are these days? If so I hope none of the new steam players try to drop with a friend because there is definitely a feeling of helplessness and inability to alter the outcome of a match combined with way more frequent 12-2ish stomps the second you queue with a friend.

Group queue can be tough, especially as a small group.

yeah, this why I played solo the last month. from all my friends who played mwo there was only 1 who played from time to time. but we had more fun droping solo while chatting on ts than dropping together. playing as 2man is hard, playing as 2man casual is... just not fun at all.

I'm in a unit, but unless we can group 4 or more strong, I prefer to PUG. Small groups are usually discounted as cannon fodder by the larger group, and that's just not fun.

Reasons like this si why TS servers like Strana Mechty are Open to the public, even if you want to drop solo and just chat it up there are channels for that.

But we also know the woes of being a 2 or 3 man during NA prime time, its tough some nights and if you cant beat em, then join em!

I actually prefer smaller groups in group queue because you can each take more tonnage. I prefer to pilot big *** mechs and it's hard to do that when your average tonnage per pilot is less than 55.

Group queue is definitely a lot more difficult than solo queue because the PSR standards are relaxed. Additionally, there are groups coordinating in teamspeak who are going to be much more effective than your average solo pug hero. A lot of players do fine in solo queue but can't adapt immediately to actually being on a team.

To be true, the problem is a bit more complicated. we (my friends and me) are casuals, we play for fun.
drunk. mostly because germans but still.

we do have some friends of a now bigger unit and from time to time we dropped with them (6-10 players). But that unit s tryhard, no joking, no drinking and military style commanding. you either do what is told or you can go. and while that is entertaining too in its own way, it can be stressful, too. And if you drop as a big group, you'll likely see other big groups of tryhards.

I don't have a solution to this or even an idea how to solve it. Maybe we'll see the 4man max limit again in group queue now that we have cw, maybe that could change this.

Just my take, but I think a lot of groups steered away from the hardcore CW scene and put their efforts into the group queue. This leaves small groups as filler. Some larger groups will talk the the small group and bring them into the plan, but that has not been the norm.

When my unit has a large number and a few filler pilots in group, we always let them in on the plan. If they choose to follow it is on them. The larger group dictates.

Yes, people in teams on TS are harder than the solo queue.

In the solo queue it's a bit of a crap shoot. You're less likely to be in a good game with aggressive players oin both who know what to do, and more likely to get stuck with a bunch of non-aggressive potatoes who play peekaboo for 10 minutes.

Good to know it's not just in my head. Would helpe me to try to coordinate as a small 2 man group if my mic was working with MWO. I can voice chat on every other program imaginable but MWO.. nope even though its enabled and pointing to my Corsair Vengeance headset.

I guess I will just either bounce between solo stomping or getting crushed by group depending on if I want to "enjoy" the game with my friends. Would be nice if there was something in between. Never gonna get out of tier 4 if I play too many group games (lose a lot), but it's a bit of a joke when I solo drop against tier 4 opponents.

Queuing up with a buddy who is new to the game is the worst thing you can do to a friend. Hopefully at some point the population and design of MWO will support playing with new people to teach them. Right now it's just a quick road to turning someone off to the game.
