Not a fan of the duplicates but whatever. Just found out a hidden advantage. If you quit a match you can still enter a match with the duplicate chassis. No delays skilling up due to being stuck in a match. So they have that going for them.

Yes, but it is somewhat counterperductivbe to mastering a chasis as you need three variants to unlock each tier. Though, only if you have one variant type of a chasis would this be a problem.

Having an extra Prime Clan or Loyalty 'Mech can have a beneficial advatage, such as a more expediant skill up as you state (or multiple drop decks in CW), when the latter condition is already met.

I'd think it would be more economically sound to just buy MC & convert to GXP to level up a mech than buy a duplicate.

The advantage of Duplicate Mechs is 3 TDR-9S in CW, or Four FS9-(whichever is more OP for CW. The Medium Pulse variant, I believe, but may be wrong).

They DO earn the C-Bill bonus. Doesn't hurt to have all those extra mechs around for C-Bill sponges. You could also build themdifferently to suit your fancy

Related question... If I buy a duplicate chassis, do I have to level it up separately too?

I built one King Crab to be dual AC/20 and one to be Dual Gauss.

I basically used the duplicates since I'm lazy, to be able to just click either crab and go.

No, XP gained in on the variant, not on the individual 'Mech.

So, if you've got the AS7-S mastered and buy four more of them, then all five AS7-Ses in your stable will have all the skill boxes unlocked.

Another advantage: you get to paint them differently and you can switch them out so that they blend with the map in CW. =D

Sometimes you get a duplicate for free. (like the free Victor and Cataphract challenges, and the Loyalty mechs)

You may even like to have one geared out for normal PUG drops and another kitted to your 8-man comp specs.
