So hey, I'm all for XL engines, but I love me a good STD ac20 'Phract or a lovely AC/5 - ML Jager. I recently have been shying away from my XL's (which I use for almost every single build I run) just to hark back to the old days where I couldn't afford them, and I'm loving the change in pace (and also not dying from a torso pop)

While I miss my higher speeds (sped iz lyfe), I find that my face-tanking brawl style of gameplay is a bit more fun, specifically with the Awesome 9-M.

Great build with STD 340 - http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c6a1b5c4991dc9b

I suggest all of you that have built up a stock of XL engines, try going back to standard. While it may be detrimental at first to learn you will not be able to dakka or pew or *whatever sound missiles make* it's such a breath of fresh air to realize that you don't really need the extra AC or LL to do better than others, especially for people like me who have been playing for over 2 years and have enough skill to use what weapons they have to the best of their ability and to their mech's stregths.

Don't think I'll ever stop using XL's though. I can't not play my Gauss jager...it just won't let me stop....

That build... ...ewwww.

If I want an Awesome with std engine, I'll stick with my Quad PPC 8Q, thanks.

The MPLS with the quirks are AMAZING. The better-than-normal-ish heat eff. allows this mech to fire a ton of salvos before worrying about heat. Add cooldown and range lvl5 modules for the LPL, and it's a great mid to semi-long range hitter.

But all the lazors are in the torso the size of a barn. Shouldn't you at least put the LPL in the right arm so you can hit fast mechs easier?

AND if you add Endo-Steel you free up 4 tons more. Did you even review the build?

Why not this?

Come on, son! That first build has 27 free crit slots and no Endo. At least change it to this! :)

I use STD engines on all my Awesomes except my AWS-8R LRM boat

Obviously, I always go with STD300 on the AWS-8Q, AWS-8T and AWS-8V. On the AWS-9M I usually use the STD320. The 340 and 350 are better, but the AWS looks too goofy when running at high speeds, so... well, you know I gots to look good while playin.

My AWS-9M builds with STD engines.
3 LL, 3 ML
2 ERPPC, 1 PPC, 1 ML
4 ER LL

EDIT: If not for the terrible running animation, I would definitely be using this XL375 build tho

I'll just leave this here.

Not actually my version, but pretty close, couldn't be bothered sticking it in smurfy so I borrowed Blagg Zear's one off mechspecs.

Try it out, it's a beast.

You guys all build way too hot. I won't pilot any IS mech under 1.39 ingame heat eff.

I don't run hot and don't die. I like to break the norm and be different *puts on raybans* **changes all camo specs to hot pink and green to be different from everyone else**

It would probably be more "optimal" to put the engine down to a STD350 because a 355 doesn't do all that much more for you but weighs 2 more tons. Use those 2 tons on some more dubs and/or armor.

I threw that together. just put in the weapons, hit max armor, then slapped in the biggest STD engine. stripped some armor for heat sinks. if I was paying closer attention I probably would have lowered it to a 250.
