this may have been suggested before, i browsed quickly and did not see it though so here goes.
i find that having only a few mechs, or only being able to drop one of a certain kind of mech in cw, that depending on whether you are playing cw or pub matches depends on the fit that you want on your mech
for instance in pub matches i like to run my tmbr with lrms and lasers and in cw i like to have dual ac5 and lasers, so when i go from one to the other since i only have one tmbr, i hace to go through all the hassle to strip the mech and refit which can cause things to be forgottten, aka ammo, targetting computer and such.
my suggestion is to be able to save a fit, and then when you want to use it be able to one click refit in the mechlab.

As much as I would love it, and so would everyone. (And it really should be standard in a game that lets you customize your mech in such a variety of ways), PGI will likely never do this. Not only do they have better things to be doing, but it would cut into profits.
Why?
Why buy mulitple mechs when you can make several variations of one mech and use it whenever you feel like. This discourages people from buying more mechs, and therefore MC and C-bill packages. That's the logic PGI will use. Regardless of how true or untrue that is, that's just the way they'll look at it. Sorry man.
