When the combine let the Free Worlds League open a wormhole in hopes that they could hold a border against the clans, the agreed upon ceasefire kept any invasions that didn't direct them towards the clan border off the menu. Doing so would provide a huge relief to both Rasalhague and the Combine.
Then recently, the Combine got a much needed influx of merc units thanks to the Contract value boost. We had enough players to start taking back clan worlds.
...but suddenly, Mercstar signs on with House Marik and becomes belligerent, attacking worlds that the FWL/Draconis truce marked as not to be attacked. This has led to a large push to close the wormhole. While there are certainly enough players in the Combine now to hold off the Smoke Jaguars, or at least to slow them, much of our efforts are being burned to close up the wormhole worlds so that we don't bleed them to Mercstar.
...but isn't that exactly the sort of thing that the Jaguars need right now? If the Combine were to have only two major enemies to focus on at this time (Davion and Jaguars, as Steiner seems to have their hands full with the Falcons ATM), we wouldn't have too much difficulty in taking back many of the worlds that the Jags had conquered.
So is Mercstar's belligerence really just about "We want someone to fight", or are they doing a delaying action in order to buy time for the Smoke Jaguars until the Kurita contracts depreciate in value and we lose most of our Merc support?
Are there any holes in this theory?
