variable pings. causes the server to count mechs as somewhere they aren't. Technical explanation here. Old post but still very relevant, especially in cases of hit registration and target leading. Be aware that this issue can be caused by any link from your pc to the servers, and may well be out of everyone's control. Early on there was an issue with a link just outside of the server farms
well, latency for me is constant so the lagging is not what should make such a big point here. I also do not think that its package loss causing this so cosntantly. yet without any true ingame feature to count packetloss, we will never know. it just feels broken, like the server when overloaded maybe dropping any HSR calculations past a speciific latency, because ift may for performance reaons stop calculating this.

I'd really love to have such a thing. I tried using a terminal window in the background that just kept pinging, but having to tab out to see what's going on made it rather impractical.

I was just called out for being a noob because I had a ping of 32... In all the first person shooters I've ever played online, low ping is desirable. Now I am fairly new to the game so I thought to myself, I should ask around.
So is it best to have low ping or high ping in this game? What is the understood sweet spot?
I play on a top of the line gaming rig on max settings.

That is a very good ping...I turn chat off so I don't have to listen to the whine.

I have a lovely 260- 300 ping making shooting lcan lasers a complete waste of time , hitting fast targets with weapons and having HSR does not work with that large ping so we those who have high pings have a real battle in this game. Odds are against us.
