I took nearly a six month break from MWO in disgust of the outrageous prices for the clan packs, problems with game balance, and lack of promised content. I did it in hopes that when I came back after the clan mechs had been released for c-bills, that a lot of these problems would be solved. I was pleased to find that most were. One problem has gotten far worse, however. I am getting very frequent crashes.

I have tried running the repair tool, the 64 bit client, and turning down or off a lot of settings, but the problem persists. It almost always happens as I connect to a match. Just a hard crash to the desktop with no error messages. It's bad enough that I would say it happens once every 5 matches. Is this just me, or is this ratio normal? If it's normal, that's just idiocy. A game that crashes one out of five times you try to run it is basically broken.

on top of that, I'm getting the ghost targeting boxes on my screen that many others are reporting, and I haven't heard of anything really being done about it.

It could be an incompatible driver. The last few nVidia drivers that got released did not agree with MWO at all... (for me anyway) I had to uninstall the driver and reinstall an older one.
Personally if it was that bad, I'd send a ticket to support and they may be able to help troubleshoot

I run an AMD board and card, so it isn't that. My drivers are all up to date, as is my copy of windows 7 64 bit. I have 16 gigs of ram and it handles all other PC games on the market now on max settings with ease. I'm starting to suspect my hard drive, but the repair tool keeps telling me there is no damage to the game files, so I'm really stumped by this.

Edit: It also looks like there haven't been any new drivers for my card released in the past six months, and I wasn't having this problem until the last three weeks when I returned from my MWO break, so I don't think rolling back my drivers to a previous version will do any good.

That indeed sounds like a patch install issue. I recommend you to reinstall the game, multiple times if necessary.

You see, whenever we get a new patch, we have a chance of getting a corrupted version of it, one that cannot be fixed with repair tool. It is rare but it happens. So just keep reinstalling the whole game until you get a non-corrupted one.

As much of a pain in the ass as this will be, It's something I haven't tried. Thanks for the advice!

I think everybody suffers from the client crash, just at different frequencies. I seem to get it once every 50 or so games, so it's not too often for me and I just have to put up with reconnecting.

As for the ghost targeting boxes, I'm also getting thouse, but I just put up with it (it's not that distracting of an issue). I've only started getting them pretty recently though, like since last patch. When have others started getting them?

Someone else suggested this in another thread, I did it and it worked...

This was after doing all of the above stuff people mentioned.

Search your computer for a "Shaders" folder in your mechwarrior files under USER.

Rename the folder. Open up your game, a new folder will be created.

I was crashing after every single match, I did this and it "seems" to have gone away for now.

Deleting the shader cache seems to have no effect.

I crash probably once every 30 games, but every single game I play has somebody in it crash on loading and has to reconnect. It's really pathetic.

I think there may be a new memory leak somewhere. I get crashes, rare, but they did not exist, were completely extinguished, until as recent 1-2 months ago.

P.S. I did just get a new Nvidia card. a GTX 760. Hmmmm. Will have to test some settings. (like turn off PhysX and or SLI support I obviously don't use on a single card set up.) ;)

My did the same thing it would drop matches but mine has always error when I exit the game 99%.Try running just LOW video settings with LOW audio if it runs ok then try just medium setting it is the game If I run High or maxed out all mine does ifs lag ghost and crash 70% of the time which is the bad Optimization of this game.

I had maybe 10 crashes total since closed beta, but since the last patch it happens frequently (~1-2 times per hour).
Pretty much always when it starts loading the map.
And I also have the random red targeting lines since then.

I do and always have crashed almost every round I load on Mining Collective...but that seems to be everyone I talk to.

Also, if you alt tab a lot like I do while waiting to start rounds, a lot of times you come back to a black screen while the level is loading, it just takes about 30 seconds to load any graphics...it seems like a crash, but isn't.

I'm not saying that is what is happening to you guys, just saying it's what I deal with.
