Just want to point something out to the forumwarriors out there, there are two types of "Diplomacy" that usually apply to games
* "the art and practice of conducting negotiations between representatives of states"
* The game currently owned by Hasbro that involves strategic movement in Europe and negotiations with your neighbors in order to further your goals
Now, I haven't played the second type in quite awhile, but one thing to keep in mind is that even when the 'game' is over, people *remember* your behavior - and that will carry over into how they interact with you the next time you play.
If you're a duplicitous jbackstabber, for example, the odds are high that people aren't going to trust your offers of alliance.
If you act against the best interests of a player, while they *may* be willing to put that behind them in the face of a greater threat, they may just decide to say "screw it" and take you down with them.
And if you act like a total tool and freak out when things aren't going your way - they remember that, too.
This (map), too, shall pass.
And we'll be back to square one.
And all the baggage that's building up, you're all going to be bringing it with you.
Trash talk, good natured ribbing, all part of the game.
When the planets start 'counting'? The actions you're engaged in *now* are going to come back to bite you.
So, chill.
And do me a solid and bounce me in the Black Sea, k?

You just enumerated a great reason to only play the beta for fun and leave the RP and for SRS stuff till the real thing and the reset.

While I don't disagree, -MS- has also built a reputation that 's likely to stick as well...

This is all I will say.
In any game large and/or successful groups always become targets, whether its because they have trolls, because of simple heresy or because of people getting bent about their success or whatnot.
Maliciousness towards the player base in any form is not something Ive experienced at all and people are cohesive, friendly and fun to play the game with, I love the experience in this game that MS affords me and have made some great friends.

Are you already starting a "charm offensive" as part of your campaign for redemption.

Without the RP, playing the game is still meaningless. We do what we must to enhance our enjoyment. That said, I agree with the OP's sentiment. Just because the map will be wiped clean doesn't mean that the legacy of beta won't live on.

I need no campaign for anything. I haven't done anything to anyone. Well, I have told off mudhut and oldradagast, but they don't count.
I represent me and only me, but I do play with some people that get hated on for things I truly have nothing to do with and do not care about at all. I just like to play the game and I participate in the forums while I am at work. Although, I would prefer to pour gas on all the fires around here, but I am not allowed to, due to their being rules set forth by said unit.

Most reputation is built on forum rumor. Anyone who does well in the game gets **** talked. It has happened to every team that has accomplished anything. It is apparently the way our community compliments those who spend quality time in game. Woe to any group who spends too much time worrying about their image being hurt by forum rumor wars...nothing you can do about the trolls. Maybe the forums have a certain amount of Mob Diplomacy, but most real diplomacy happens on a TS...not in a forum thread.

I wish we could designate this as the official troll playground so I could enjoy it to it's full extent. Dear coordinator needs a proper nemesis. But alas, it is not to be.
