Keep in mind hardpoints for upgrades and there's posisbly some restrictions in regard to new tech and engine mods.

Hard points are the key difference at thins point. If you played MW4, you know about the idea.

In otherwords, buy a CPLT-C1 to CPLT-C1b refit kit.

leather, defiantly leather. getting rid of the stock bucket seat and going with a capt's chair for the cup holders.
Carbon Fiber heat sinks, cold air for the reactor, new chip
Really have to see what Piranha is going to charge in the mech lab.

I thought I understood it well enough. The ac 20 took up 10 slots, and the srm 6s looked to take up 4 each. Should they not both fit in there?

Its not just critical spots - it is the number of a given type of weapon (ballistic, energy, missile) that can go in each section of a given mech chassis. There will be a version of the Hunchback with more energy hardpoints instead of the big AC20, and I think maybe one that mounts missiles there instead as well... but no variant I know of that had both missile and ballistic spots.

but i believe the hard-points are what will restrict you. if you take off a balistic wepon, you have to replace it with one, not a missle system. that is what i gathered from the mech-lab break-down

Take a Catapult, remove the LRM-15s, replace each with 2 SRM-6 and 2 tons of ammo. Convert to 14 double heat sinks. Remove the Jump Jets, add 3.5 tons of armor, add ECM. Might drop ECM or a heat sink for CASE.
It's very convenient that 2 LRM-15s and 2 tons of ammo weigh exactly the same as 4 SRM-6s and 4 tons of ammo. Hopefully the arms have enough space.
