Running a scout (3L), really fun build. But I like 3 mech modules and can only bring 2. The modules are:

1) Radar Depravation
2) Adv Sensor Range
3) Adv Zoom

1) Am carrying ECM and have been told it makes Radar Dep unnecessary. Not sure if that's true.

2) Am also carrying BAP (and TAG) so I'm kinda of a mind that since I am already sacrificing weapon space for electronics, I should max out the sensor range? Its seems too situational, but that extra 200m radius has saved my butt (or killed theirs with locks) quite a few times. Maybe I can get away with dropping it? That would be 1000m instead of 1200m right?

3) Weapon loadouts are either ERLs or ERPPC (with range mods). I know adv zoom is a crutch, but I don't seem to be able to reliably target hit boxes outside of 700m without it....

So, which one do you think I can get away with dropping?

There is no need for scouting in this game. Plus bountiful ECM on the enemy team means long range observation is impossible.

Radar Dep is indeed not needed on ECM mechs.

BAP is a waste of tonnage.

Either support your team with ECM or setup somewhere remote and ER Laser snipe.

"Radar Dep is indeed not needed on ECM mechs"

Can you explain why? Are there any instances where Radar Derp would apply and ECM won't?

Pretty much what Spheroid said. Not much scouting is required since everybody anyway sees everybody at 800 m (unless ECM-Jesus-magic box is there) and the maps are small.

Radar derp + ECM: Enemy will anyway lose your targeting info soon enough when LOS is broken when you have ECM so radar derp is somewhat redundant.

In addition to radar derp, seismic sensor is the only other really important module so I'd recommend putting that in. Nice for scouts to see behind corners without exposing themselves. And shows if someone got to your back although this feature is more important for heavier mechs. If you like adv. sensor range, it's ok but if you can play without it and learn to play without advanced zoom, then I'd take target info gathering for second module after wallhack so those short moments of checking up on mechs (partially) covered by ECM are not lost.

Radar deprivation still works for an ECM Mech but the only way they will be able to lock onto you for LRMs is if you are NARCed, TAGed or in range of UAV, in those cases radar deprivation will not help much, the only time it is likely to help is if you are being countered e.g. by being within 200m of an enemy Mech mounting BAP or 150m an ECM set to counter.

BAP reduces target info gathering time as well as increasing your sensor range, just in case you did nor realise it looses its ECM counter if there is an ECM fitted to the Mech is is mounted on, BAP + ADV Sensor Range will give you a 1200m targeting radius, do you need that range?

if Advanced zoom is of use to you then definitely keep it, I would not run a sniper without it.

I recommend you drop Radar Deprivation because it does not really help an ECM Mech and consider if you need both BAP and Advanced Sensor Range.

I would suggest Target Decay for a scout. All your LRM boat friends will love you.

Thanks. I'll drop the Radar Dep.

The 1200m range has been useful for shaping the battlefield in pugs, maybe not needed for CW. Will see.

And will look into seismic and target info VS adv sensor and adv zoom.

"Adv Target Decay ...increases time to 3.5 secs"

From what? I would time it without but don't trust my results. Is there a known stat?

+1 for seismic, it's my personal must have. Stopping and checking for movement before you go around a blind corner saves your life. You can also relay info to team members.

Radar dep is my second module of choice. On ecm mechs I will use it if I have room.

Other modules are build specific and more user preference to me. Zoom for snipers, info gathering if you are running something that can saw off limbs etc. Target decay is sub par IMO unless you are a LRM boat, and even then it's so situational and is countered by radar dep. I'd rather have seismic to see someone sneaking up on me.

I find sensor range is a bit of a waste, LRMs traveling that far will be dodged. If you are relying on seeing the red boxes to notice enemies you are hurting yourself, as previously mentioned ECM is everywhere these days.

ATD allow you to make 2 LRM volley. 1200 is very good thing for scouting. Those people who writes "it's not nesessary" never press R key and don't know how red triangles appears. Scout also needed Seismic sensor to prevent backstab.

It is redundant though, most LRM users will be using the module themselves. Even if an LRM user doesn't have it, they'll have no idea which lock is affected by ATD so you'd have to go around locking targets that already have LRMs incoming hoping it will do some good, which means you won't actually be very effective at scouting.

Radar Deprivation is of course of less use to ECM mechs than to non ECM mechs but saying it's useless is wrong.

Radar Deprivation will help an ECM mech in three cases:

When you ECM is jammed: you lose it's protection so Radar Deprivation is the next line of defense.
When you are taged: Sure if you get behind cover TAG will stop pointing at you but without Radar Dep enemy mechs will keep lock on you for 2 seconds (more if Radar decay) with it they lose lock immediately (or 1.5 secs with Adv Radar Decay).
When .
When you go counter to jam someone else's ECM you will definitely appreciate Radar Deprivation.

I agree though that it's not as useful to ECM mechs than non ECM, but that's stating the obvious, so while it's almost mandatory to any other mechs it's optional for ECM mechs. In my opinion more important for slower ECM mechs than fast lights, reason being that lights get to cover faster and are smaller improving the chances of finding appropriate cover in time to avoid damage.

Thanks Brizna. I've been running without it and *feels* like I'm getting hit more with missiles, but it wasn't certain. Also more blind-side damage. Sounds like this is what happened. Hmmm.
