I agree with you in concept Sprout, I think I'm just very jaded by the MWO community I've experienced, and online gaming communities of the past 10+ years haven't done much more for my hope.

I'm basically just preparing myself for keeping it turned off, because with the amount of troll text chat in this game, and the maturity level of a lot of players, I see VOIP turning into one of those features that everyone has to keep off at all times just to stay sane and avoid the trolls/abuse.

Maybe the community will surprise me....but I strongly doubt it lol.

Your points in the original post are still good though, for those that are willing to follow them.

It takes effort to self police. We don't have to be rude, and we probably WILL have to endure some stupidity. But disengaging is the wrong way to effect change (or in this case to build a good system).

for me that effort is worth it. For you it may not be. I respect that. But I encourage everyone to make whatever efforts you can to keep the system viable, up to and icnluding reporting people. Be respectful yourself. And feel free to mute. But dont globally mute if you can handle the occasional idiot.

The fastest way to make the system useless is to cede it to the morons.

How many people are really going to use the built-in VOIP?

I didn't care much about VOIP when they first mentioned it, but now I'm pretty happy about it arriving. I'm in a Unit and on TS a lot, but I still love solo queue. I'll certainly use it there, and I got a good feeling that the community will be surprisingly responsible with it.

My experience is that people don't even manage to report their name when saying something. Everyone just says "I" and "me".
Frustrating to the point of hopelessness.

Greetings all,

You just know, that someone will be playing sound bites of 'Duncan Fisher' comments to go with the events happening in the game.
- It happens in Ts so expect it here.

Just saying,
Although we do have the 'real', 'Duncan' as a Pilot in MWO. (Mr. George Ledoux)

I don't use PTT, I have a nice headset that when I lift the mic boom up it auto mutes. I would forget to push the button and no-one would hear me. You do have to exercise a little extra caution when not using PTT but for me it is the only way!

common sense.

Well of course, doh! But it seems that PGI charged way to much MC for it and most players never bought any. LOL :)

Ideally, a Mute List, like a Friends List, would be ideal. As players are muted, they auto add to my List and any time a match launches. the list members, if present are MUTED automatically. I can't see remembering who is the douches and not and having to re-mute the same dullards every Match.

A future add-on perhaps.

#12 Just listen and follow along as best as possible. Not everyone has to "say something or have something to say", just because reasons... :)

I'm really looking forward to it for PUGged CW matches and mixed group matches. I'll rarely if ever use it in random pug matches, but so often I get into random groups of friends (who are all in different units) so it'll be a lot easier to just use the built in VOIP rather than getting everyone onto the same software/into the same channel/etc, particularly when individuals come and go constantly. It's a huge PITA to keep sharing whatever TS addy/password/etc, then people mistyping things or not having a given program installed or whatever else.

It's going to be ....interesting.

I imagine the majority of players will be decent with it, but it's just too irresistible for the neck beards and trolls to pass up.

As long as I can mute the noise, I'll be OK with it.

This day, warhorns become actual horns... =)

Seriously though, this will be game changing. I'm excited. An echo of previous posts:
[LOCATION], [UNIT], followed by [ANY OTHER PERTINENT INFO]
this system conveys information in order of importance.

So now you can insult people and they won't report you because they won't have any evidence like screenshot or something? Nice!

Don't worry, I'm sure MWO will go the same way as every other game that introduced built-in VOIP. The cry for an easy mute function will be louder than the cry for built-in VOIP ever was.

As for reporting people? Let's be honest here. PGI can't even effectively moderate their own forums, moderating voice comms is well beyond their reach.

Are you, uh, new to the internet?

No, but Op's hints are all covered by common sense and his tips are worthless, because as you indicate, we know many people leave their common sense when turning the internet on. And so the tips won't help any because those people are not even willing to sticking to those rules.

Ok so this VIOP thingy - does it work on any computer - I don't (to my knowledge) have a microphone to talk into , also currently no headset?

I play music when playing so I guess that would just feed in unless I turn it off - is that right?

thanks :)

you need some kind of microphne first, and unless you have a Notebook with integrated mic, no one will hear your scream. or your music. but you wlll hear the others.
