well thus far my K9 is a improved mimic of my UM-R63: it uses a 120XL, has full armor (except on head), uses an AC/2 with at least two tons of ammo (also has the zoom skill), and uses two medium pulse lasers mounted in the torso. For note I do keep the JJ's in the legs on double heat sink builds because I need the torso slots for the double heat sinks.

I had to go with the LB10X and 5 small lasers, but I went down to an XL145 and 1 JJ.

My plan is to run it with 5xMPL, 2xJJ and XL190 for now. With the recent armor buffs combined with all armor nodes from the skill tree I actually feel like its going to be quite effective.

When the new tech arrives I could try something like 5xML, LFE190 with max JJ's and light gauss if it fits.

LPL and 4 mediums. Dump everything into laser duration and the armor tree and never really go away.

5 MPL has imo been proven to be the meta-winner, 5 ML with STD engine is good too if you want to zombie with the RT. But really any build with less than 5 lasers can be done on any of the other urbies better because of the extra laser quirks the others have, the K-9's only real role is boating 5 lasers of assorted types.

I dropped all of one match with UAC5+5xSL and then realized that the 3rd arm mount was blocking the "Protect and Serve" text on the LA. Can't have that... so now I'm running AC5+4xML. It's not the most exciting thing in the world, but I know it works- I run practically the same thing on one of my R60Ls. This will probably become an RAC build when new tech drops.

Current Skill Tree spec: Laser duration, full mobility (minus two yaw nodes, and I really wish PGI would change the connections so that Urbies don't have to take any yaw nodes to get everything else), most of the armor tree, and 10 nodes in sensors (for the 60% derp and 50% seismic). Urbies are frakkin' beastly since the Skill Tree dropped, and I'm loving every minute of it.

ac 2 w/ 1 ton of ammo and 5 MLs. std 170 engine. the ac tends to get people's attention to shoot at first so yeah take my 2 dmg ac round from me while I keep using my 15 dmg 3MLs on the other arm to shoot you with. does run a little hot but an officer like k9 prefers hot pursuit anyway.

My build ended up being 4ML, 1MG, 1/2 ton ammo, 2JJ, STD170 because of that issue.

For me this is my special build. Survival Tree and Mobility Tree to the max, plus Radar Deprivation. I've no point in the weapon tree, there is no need for it.

That build wouldn't fit anyway. It is just barely possible to squeeze AC10+1xSL (super-stock build) in an Urbie with an XL170 and one JJ. Light Gauss is the same tonnage as AC10, and LFE weighs more than XL. Max armor costs 6.57 tons; ES gives back 1.5, so... it doesn't fit. LGauss+5xML is 18-20 tons just in weapons (plus ammo, of course)- well into troll build territory; you'd need to be running stock engine to pull it off. If LGauss were even two tons lighter, it might be worth running slow (XL125-145 slow, not STD60 slow) for a baby Gaussvomit build (though with ERSL instead of MLs), but the gun is just too heavy for what it does.

I don't think it's so much that, I've noticed that to get a gauss on a 30 tonner is generally much more difficult than it is to get it on a 35 tonner. It has to do with the sacrifice of armor and speed to get it on there, you wind up making your mech too fragile in the end in the case of a 30 ton mech. Ironically this isn't the case with those 5 extra tons in the mix when it's a 35 ton mech.

How long does the ammo last on that?

The whole match, if you practice good trigger control and hold fire until you know you can generate hits. I think that, more than any other weapon, RACs are going to require patience and care to perform- 300rd of RAC5 ammo is 450 damage, which is more than my other Urbie builds (2t of AC5/UAC5 ammo only yields 300; 2t of AC10 yields 400; 3t of AC20 is 420), but RACs are very easy to waste shots with if you let yourself get carried away. A little more practice and it'll be more than enough.

Did a quick craft in smurphy.

5 ERML

STD180

Max armor

1jj

Heatsinks.

Talk about a tough nut to crack.

Do it in the R63 an you can run twin SNPPC in the ST with a STD engine, heatsinks, and some heavily shaved armor from arms and head.

R-60L will net you a LGuass, 3 tons ammo, a heavy duty XL engine and respectable armor.

You can also boat out some dangerous UAC builds.
