In short: my laptop internal microphone works perfectly fine and consistently, but I can't get VOIP to transmit when I'm using an external device.
Just as an aside, I notice in the linked Reddit post that you mentioned you don't see a pop-up for your own name when attempting to transmit. Under the current implementation there actually is no visual feedback provided to signify when you are transmitting.
If you've confirmed with people through chat that they really can't hear you when you engage PTT, try de-activating 'Exclusive control' for that external device.
- Right-click on the speaker icon in your Windows taskbar and select Recording Devices
- With your external input device selected, click on the Properties button
- In the Advanced tab, un-check the ‘Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device’ box and click OK.
