Question: HOW DO I PLAY i downloaded the installer and now I'm at the online page but i can't play

Alright.

Step one, this is not a web-based game and does not require the website to launch. Only to download the installer.
That said, if you ran the installer you should have this little guy in your start menu.
Posted Image
Please click it now and say "yes" to allowing it to run in administrator mode.
Now you'll see this screen.
Posted Image

Step 2. See that pretty blue button with the white text? Says "Patch." Click that. When it's good and ready -- some long time later -- you'll be ready to play.

Skipping an hour or three...

Now you'll see this.
Posted Image

Alright! It's ready to go.

Step 3: Hit Play.

You'll find yourself here after the publisher and developer are done kindly reminding you who brought this game to you; which they will do every time you start the game. Hit space repeatedly to tell them "Yeah, yeah, START THE GAME ALREADY!!!!"
Posted Image

Now enter your email and password.
Once there, you'll find yourself on a page much like this....with a lot fewer mechs.
Posted Image

That's the game reminding you that you're space-poor. But don't worry, for your first 25 matches the game will shove LOTS of c-bills (money) down your throat until you've got roughly enough to get almost any mech you want for your first mech. Click one and then click launch.

Or better, click "Home", "Tutorial" if it doesn't already put you there on its own. Then after, click "Home" and "Testing Grounds," to get familiar with things before really mean people in large walking battlemechs (mechanized walking tanks) shoot you.

And that's...

In order to play the game, download the installer found here: http://mwomercs.com/game/download
From there, run it, accept the Policy, and begin patching (20-30, 6Gigabits almost I think)
Once done there, enter your email and password that you use to log into like here, and there you go.
There are many tutorials, found within the game and here (though these tutorials are old)

It, seems relatively straightforward, thanks to those who were willing to go over this for new players atleast.

Oh and a couple of other things, save up those extra Cbills the game throws at you. Use the Trial 'Mechs to get a feel for how the game plays and to which type of 'Mech you are most inclined to use.

Once you are settled in and feel ready to shell out the Cbills for your first 'Mech, I would recommend using a website called Smurfy (I don't have the link to hand but I'm sure someone will post it up) This allows you to try out different combinations of weapons/armour/equipment without having to part with any of those hard to come by digital monies.

Lastly, welcome to the Inner Sphere :D

Have fun, be patient and remember the only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

...And finally, welcome to the game, and to the forum.

Feel free to PM me if you're unterested in some friendly matches/general advice and if you have any further questions don't hesitate to post 'em here. That's what this section is here for after all.

A quick question to add to this one. What's the average of finishing c-bill gain after the 20 matches for a new player? I'm 7 games in and have just over 3 million.

During your first 25 matches you will get a bit over 10 million worth of Cadet Bonus total, the bonus starts off high in your first matches and fades in the following ones.

With the little regular income besides the bonus, I think you should have around 11-12 million after the 25 matches, even if you didn't perform spetacularly.

Bear in mind that you have to get 3 variants of a chassis to fully elite it, and upgrading mechs cost, too. And performing well in a non-elited mech is quite hard, which makes it harder to get more monies. So, going for a very expensive mech for a first mech might not be the greatest idea. I'd suggest starting with a sub-5-million mech, like some of the Hunchbacks. And always upgrade to Double Heat Sinks (1.5 million) before entering a match.

Yes but TBRs are quite pricey, I would actually suggest starting with something a bit lighter.

TBR is probably the best mech in the game.

That said, you will be stuck with a TBR that is slower, clumsier and overheats more than everyone else's TBR for about 200 or more matches until you can afford to buy 2 more of them. And since everyone knows that TBR is probably the game's best mech, you will be priority target in every match you play. You're also taking one Clan Heavy mech spot in the team you drop with, which means there will usually be one less elited TBR in your team compared to the opposing force, which can in part lead to your team losing more than 50% of the matches you play. Annd losing matches is really bad money.

But besides those, hard to go wrong with a TBR. :)

Here's the link to Smurfy's Site. It's one of the best resources outside of the game available.

So remember to ask away!

I think they answered your question but I first read this as "what's the average earnings I can expect to earn per match after the cadet bonus is over?" to which I would estimate as 40k for a loss and 80k for a win, depending on your performance. As you get better and get more kills/assists, that can go quite a bit higher.

Yes you could but for value and accessibility the Stormcrow is a very effective Clan 'Mech, assuming that is your chosen technology direction. It obviously isn't as expensive as the Timberwolf and therefore will give you a small nest egg to put towards your next 'Mech.

As has been mentioned 'Mechs can be "elited", essentially unlocking skills that improve the performance of that model. The basic skills can be unlocked by gaining experience points through in game actions, however to begin unlocking "elite" skills and the all important doubling effect, you will need to own 3 variants of the one 'Mech chassis.

Obviously Clan 'Mechs are more expensive than their Inner Sphere counterparts, making building up as many Cbills as possible a priority. Again it may be a good idea to keep playing with the trial 'Mechs for as long as possible or at the least until you are certain which direction you want to go.

Fixed that for you.

Clan mechs start out more expensive - but once you start throwing DHS, Endo and very possibly and XL the IS chassis get just as expensive (if not more so)

HOWEVER, if you buy omnipods (rather than swapping them from other variants) it can still get very expensive for clan mechs. Buying weapons isn't cheap either, but you'd be doing that either way. Anyway you look at it, your first 3 mechs are going to be your most expensive since you have no spare parts to play around with.

HOWEVER

If you are buying more than 1 or 2 omnipods you are shooting yourself in the foot intentionally
(Exception - if you run multiple KitFox in your CW drop-deck or similar)

Almost every omni-pod available comes with the full variant - and since you need 3 different variants to fully master it...

And while - yes - the weapons are more expensive the only painfully expensive ones are the AC20s.
All the others are comparable to the prices of IS equivalents (if more expensive - but not THAT much more expensive)

Probably not.

I think the cadet bonus is about 8 million in total, match income is usualy between about 40,000 and 250,000 for a new player it will probably be around 80,000 on average so after 25 games you will probably have about 10 million cbills, that is insufficient for a Timber Wolf, you would likely need another 50-80 games to afford one.
