Can you please announce server shutdowns a few minutes beforehand, like any other professional online game operator does?

Ideally via a little ingame message, but at least per news/forum.

It's really getting annoying to just get kicked off without any warning if all it would take is for one of you write a 30 second message.

Annoying customers on purpose is not the best business strategy there is.
Thank you for your understanding.

Oh, online again?
My client told me there was a server maintenance going on after kicking me.
Maybe a glitch?
Still this thread applies to yesterday's (or any future) patching server shutdown as well.

This is Lostech.

The thing of the alert system that is implemented, but rarely used is that you could easily write a script to remind people "tourney is over" or "patch day maintenance is happening soon™" or just a reminder for upcoming events.

It's there, but not used for anything when it is most appropriate... so it's just a wasted feature.

I've seen the server shutdown announcements in game... they work.

Did your internet connection die? When mine goes out, the MWO client misinterprets it as "servers undergoing maintenance".

PGI does announce server shutdowns in game. I've seen them a few times.

Yes, but that's in game. I'm not aware of them when I'm in the mechlab.

Usually, you don't have enough time to respond when a regular match is 15 mins long (and now CW @ 30mins).

I used to see a message... usually at the 1 minute mark (thanks a lot). But It's been months since I've seen one.. just BAM it's off..

I was in a match.... 6 minutes or so in... all of a sudden all the other mechs stopped in one place... little legs still moving.. guess what they shutdown the server :( Absolutely zero warning!

It's been off and that's it.. maybe there is some bug preventing me from seeing the message.. or maybe they just don't care

The in-game announcements are basically useless, because you can't really control how long any particular match is going to last after it is launched.

What they really need is a system that allows them to stop launching new matches while allowing matches that are already in progress to continue. Turn that on 15 minutes before you want to take the servers down (or 30 for CW), and PRESTO! No one gets kicked off. No one's match data gets lost. And the servers are empty when you need to take them down.

I don't think it's as manageable in CW though, because you want that downtime ASAP, and requiring 30 mins notice is a lot to ask for sometimes. I'm not saying it's doable, but it depends. 15 mins til downtime is easy enough and everyone can understand the MM being shutoff for the upcoming downtime. 30 mins... is questionable.
