Man I had an Amiga with a freakin FOURTY MEG HARD drive.
That's right FOURTY. HARD. UPGRADED from TEN. Drive.
Sigh oh those were the days. Syndicate. Psygnosis. Mechwarrior. Battletech (unlicensed) simulator
*sings "MEMORIES" and passes out form too much rum*

My personal machine at the time had 1 MB of RAM, a 66 Mhz processor (can't remember what brand, think it was cyrix but not sure) and I think 10 MB of hard drive space. The games, especially Mechwarrior, ran great on that system. Tried playing Mechwarrior on my grandma's computer one summer which had much higher specs for the time but I don't remember what they were. Anyway mission started, barely tapped the key to increase throttle, and 2 seconds later I found myself on the other side of the map and dead already because the game moved that freaking fast. .
Then I learned how to artificially scale down the processor clock speed through the DOS prompt. Think it was a switch in the Mechwarrior executable that told the game to only run as if the processor was a particular speed.
Loved Inception and Revenge though, only beat either of those once though and I've since lost both the software itself and no longer have a machine that isn't too overpowered for those games. Could use DOS Box I suppose but oh well.

Crescent Hawks' Revenge will always be my favourite game, as it was the first PC game I ever owned, and the game which got me interested in this whole, crazy Battletech thing!

I have a ton of C64 and Atari Computer System stuff, but unfortunately none of my drives are in functioning order (or all my diskettes have been mysteriously wiped). No matter how far and wide I search I can't find a suitable replacement mech at a price I'm willing to pay.
It's not a mystery that data on your old diskettes disappeared, data just naturally fade out after few years ( data demagnitized corect me if I used incorrect word). I went through 8 bit AtarI to 64 bit Atari Falcon ^^ I remember I 've got Crescent Hawks game on Atari ST, there was made another RPG title on this mechanics system, i forgot the title.
Cheers!

But still awesome to do. And always a shock to go back and read that by today's standards, the original C64 processor didn't even clock in at 1.0 mHz.

...you can download it from here: http://www.sarna.net.../mechwarrior_1/ All 762.35.Kb !! If you get it to run, just remember to alter your clock speed, otherwise the first Locust you face will be behind you before you've fired your first shot!
Gotta love those cut-scenes! Also the fact you could visit 45 "different" planets. Admittedly, they all looked pretty well the same - flat ground, a pyramid shaped hill (or two) and maybe a building.
