For something you listen to as playing, almost any Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, or Nirvana song (I am partial to "The Immigrant Song" when heading into battle) will do, something to get your blood boiling as you head in. Although Ride of the Valkyries is pretty good too.
As for what I would play for my opponents...
It is hard to beat the psychological shock of hearing something like this reverberating out of the mountains http://grooveshark.c...ve/3lntyZ?src=5 although some of that heavy metal crap would sound pretty freaky resounding off mountain sides

So many songs from that movie just give me a MechWarrior vibe.

I can just imagine the following scenario: team of 4 drops into battle, everyone is on voice (like Vent), leader kicks in and says something about forming up and sending a scout off, and someone keys their headset, blasting everyone's ears with their CRAP music that is turned up so loud we're all getting distortion.

Oh? Care to enlighten us concerning the definition of "good" in relation to music?
Agreed that blasting anything loudly over voice chat is (or should be) a dick-punchable offense. But so is loudly proclaiming your preference as universal ironclad truth, woe be anyone who has different tastes.
Back on topic:
Depending on the in-game music that comes with MWO (if any), I'll probably be rocking mostly soundtracks from the previous Mechwarrior games, at least initially. MW2 and MW3 for more atmospheric moods, MW2:Mercs and MW4 for some more high-energy 'mech stomping.
Those songs pretty much define the image of the entire Battletech universe for me.
