- Remove all damage transference: e.g. when a body part is destroyed then continues to take damage, the damage is no long shifted to a connected part of the mech instead
Why?
- It's a stealth nerf to lasers, meaning you can't spam lasers with general aim onto dead mech parts and still be rewarded with damage on the mech. e.g. Now you have to aim. This does effect ballistics, but to a lesser degree as ballistics are generlly aimed more specifically due to ammo limitations anyway.
How does this Buff IS?
Easy. Standard engines. The clans get super light, very resilient XL engines which don't explode with one ST being removed. This means they are generally very fast or have levels of firepower available to them that IS mechs can't hope to reach - this isn't even taking into account the lower tonnage of clan weapons and their increased range. On the flip side IS mechs are having to switch to XL's more and more or face being crushed by clan mechs simply because they become overwhelmed with the huge Alpha's that clan mechs have. This means they're super squishy and MUCH easier to kill for laser builds.
If IS mechs could fit standard engines and get a *real* benefit from this then the tonnage spent would perhaps be worth it. Notable mechs such as the Atlas, Centurion, Hunchback, Cataphract or Orion have viable Standard engine builds - if, once a side torso was 'destroyed', it could continue to shield damage without transferring it onto another body part, it would discourage people who continue to spam damage into a dead mech part by not rewarding them with further damage closer to the mechs core.
I think at the centre of this, it rewards players who intelligently aim and shoot instead of mindlessly spamming.
As a Caveat this is probably a nerf to SRM's/Streaks.
EDIT*
After discussing this with a few people they added some feedback: This is a buff to Brawling, as it gives an extra line of defence against poke style play - but since this effects missile systems it stops SRM zombie boats utterly dominating (e.g. randomly spamming SRM's into dead body part isn't going to result in a destroyed mech if an opponent is torso twisting effectively).
