Give mechs bonuses while having mounted different weapon types, i.e. some combination of missiles, Laser, AC basically. Of course more/other weapon classes/subcategories could be defined and some exceptions should be made like excluding MG/small lasers from the system. The availability and bonus values could be managed through quirks or be generally part of the game logic.
Today most competitive builds are mostly mono builds (in CW... I do not really care about public queue), basically because of moduls and quirks, which favor only a specific weapon type, which I think is kinda boring. I would see the following pros of having such system:
- Monobuilds are not the only viable loadouts anymore
- Requires much more player skill to play mechs (e.g. AC, Laser, SRM/LRM combination).
- More "untypical" but still competitive builds possible
- Many unpopular mechs/chassis (e.g. Quickdraw, Highlander, Orion, (non-DDC) Atlas) could become an option again
- Assault would become a real alternative again and would be worth the high tonnage in CW just because they are able to load more weapons/ weapon types
- Lore guys probably would like it
- Some balancing/testing effort would be needed
- Actually, I do not see a logical "real-world" explanation why for example a combination of SRM and Laser should result in reduction in heat generation for these weapons ONLY when both of them are in the Mech at the same time... but who cares about realism
