Hello Warriors,

I am new to MechWarrior Online and I need some help. I would like to invest in a high damage energy weapon sniper mech but i am starting out and do not know how to acomplish this. How do I earn currency? Also, I am confused on how to customise a mech after i purchase one. Here are my main questions:

What is a good sniper mech that has access to energy weapons that i can get early in the game?

How do I earn money with said vehicle?

Any tips on how to keep from over heating?

Thank you for making such an awesome game.

Earn currency by doing things in matches. Kills, assists, spotting, etc.

Someone else can explain customization, but I can give you a good build.

Sniper 1 SCR-PRIME
Sniper 2 BJ-3
Sniper 3 TBT-5J
Sniper 4 HBK-4J
Sniper 5 CN9-AL

To avoid overheating you just need to fire conservatively. Do you know how to set weapons groups?

Play the trial mechs that are available for awhile to build c-bills. For the first 25 matches there is a cadet bonus that will help, after that you'll see earnings drop quite a bit. You ill earn cbills with every match;once it is finished.

I would recommend going into settngs and looking at the key-bindings. Note which ones you are likely to use the most often and remap as necessary for ease of use. Such as chain-fire. I have it mapped to E so I can toggle it on, or off...as need/heat dictates.

Before doing actual matches; do the tutorial. Revisit the keybinds; modify them as you see fit....grab a trial mech; select home, choose training grounds. Use the rt ctrl/keyboard arrows to set weapon groups. Leave the column that you will need to chainfire, on occasion, highlighted so you can switch back and forth as heat allows/dictates.

As for sniping; there are a variety of mechs that are suitable. Generally, any mechs with high weapon hardpoints that are cockpit level, or higher, tend to be decent sniper choices. At least from what I have seen.

The trial Stormcrow will work in this role.Play around with it first in testing grounds, sort up your weapon groupings and get used to the control scheme. Also try the other trial mechs for different weight classes and playstyles and pick the one that suits your taste.
You will have to play with the non customisable trial mechs first, and earn your c-bills(the grindable currency) and then you can buy your first own mech, and customize it as you see fit. Please note that you will need 3 variants of each chassis to get access to the whole skill tree.
And when you jump into a real match, dont stand in the open(move like water flows to avoid lrms and countersniper fire),follow your team mates, focus fire, dont block chokepoints and do not play fair against enemies,if you see a friendly mech firing at something, focus fire, but dont go rambo and avoid tunnel vision.

you earn by playing, each action you take in the game that in some way helps the team will earn you cbills including:
being the first player on your team to target each enemy Mech,
doing damage,
killing a Mech,
doing the most damage to a single enemy Mech,
moving with your Lance (4 man group)
moving with any allies,
providing locks for LRMs,
countering ECM.
there are several other things which can earn you money.

To avoid overheating learn how much heat each weapon group generates and avoid firing when you are too hot, simple but not necessarily easy.
When you own your own Mechs you can customize them to make them run cooler, e.g:
FIT DOUBLE HEAT SINKS, that is the big one, DHS cost 1,500,000 cbills and most Inner Sphere Mechs will need them although all trial Mechs should already have them,
use Ballistics rather than Lasers or Missiles because Ballistics run cooler than Lasers or Missiles, it is highly unlikely you will ever overheat from an AC5 or Gauss Rifle,
add more heatsinks instead of weapons,
have long and short range fire groups as opposed to every weapon in the same range bracket so you are not firing all your weapons at once.
