Lol, what are you gonna do with that? There's not enough free tonnage to put more than 2 ac/5s, 3ac/2s...so,unless you're gonna load up 7 machine guns...

That's exactly what most people will do with 7 B hardpoints.

7 MGs, ERPPC, ~8k ammo, ~Mk4 TC. Tweak as required, it's a fun build, not a good build. More likely is the 6 and 2E, but that doesn't have the same appeal.

Even more common with be the ECM torso.

Really? o.o

The only mech I've extensively used MGs on is my Hugin. Which is utterly devestating... But I thought that had more to do with the 8srm per second it put out...

Why the targeting computer, and the lvl 4 specifically? Just to enhance the PPC projectile? Or is there something special I don't realize?

Yeah, and spare tonnage. You could invest in DHS, or 10k ammo, but both have diminishing returns, since you'll either never spend the ammo, or rarely get hot enough to use the DHS.

ERLL and a larger TC is also an option.

It's a lulzy build, it doesn't need reason. MGs will still be lacklustre, ever since the 20% damage nerf and 25% DPS nerf.

Shadow Cat got caught sneaking up on us, and we see her before she gets announced.

(Click the arrow to the original thread).
Good to hear Thell point it out, but... some of us saw it long before. Last night being the same day. So now I'm curious what time...

Large Pulse Laser will be better for this sort of build tbh.

And the ECM replaces one set of 3B sadly, limiting you to 4MG and 1 energy. :(

I am looking forward to thisun though.

6B, 2E, 1M will be a solid option too.

For those people continually comparing the Stormcrow to the Hellbringer, Gargoyle, Executioner, etc for pod space you guys keep forgetting about hardlocked DHS.

It only has 10 and no "freebies" in the engine so it has less weight and space available compared to all of these 'mechs. The 23 raw tonnage available and number of hardpoints means that you can put the same laser vomit or gauss vomit on it as all those heavies and assaults but it is not going to work well.

Free space when adjusted to 16 hardlocked DHS which is the most anything but the Warhawk packs:

Nova: 14t
Stormcrow: 17t
Mad Dog: 22t
Hellbringer: 21t (effectively 20t since everyone uses ECM)
Summoner: 19t
Timberwolf: 27t
Gargoyle: 20t
Warhawk: 37t (can't remove 4 though so this is just for comparison reasons)
Executioner: 25t
Dire Wolf: 50t

It is swappable, but I'd use it as an oversized Mist Lynx. Just more heat efficient due to TrueDubs.

And I am well aware of the ECM-3MG torso. 6 MGs will rarely be used because of that longstanding 25% nerf.

Executioner: 26t? I may be wrong here since the 'mech isn't out yet. this is what I have gleaned from the pre-release page.

25, comes with 16.

I'm probably just going to more or less keep the Prime setup, but with ECM, and MASC troll the enemy with my Gauss rifle :P

25% nerf to machine guns? Did they reduce the damage overall, or is it if you have more than 5, it drops 25%?

I think you misunderstood him.

The omnipods you get from your purchase can be used on other variants of that chassis, but you cannot purchase more until they are released for purchase through other means. You will have a single set of them, per pack you purchase.

They dropped the damage from 1.0 to 0.8, while also cutting the crit chance from 67% to 52% in an earlier nerf.

That totals a 25% DPS nerf when you take the crits into account on bare Internal Structure, or just a straight up 20% damage nerf without taking that into account. Single mount or a dozen, straight up nerfed.

Is that before, or after fast fire? Half of that could be regained with the cooldown module....

Fast Fire doesn't work on MGs since there isn't a cooldown.

Weird, I could have sworn I was able to ECM all my Hellbringers within a few days of release before they were available for MC or C-bills.

Well the thing is Machine guns are VERY usefull, they have the highest DPS per tonnage ratio.

both IS (0.5 tons) and Clan (0.25 tons) with 0.80 damage per second per MG...

1 TON
2 IS mg = 1.60 DPS
4 Cl MG = 3.20 DPS
1 Medium laser = 1.03 DPS
1 Cl ER Medium Laser = 1.45 DPS (Just a reminder... this thing has huge amount of heat compared to the other weapons.)

4 tons
8 IS mg = 6.40 DPS
16 Cl MG = 12.8 DPS
1 Cl ER large laser = 2.11 DPS

5 tons

10 IS mg = 7.20 DPS
20 Cl MG = 14.40 DPS
1 Large laser = 2.12 DPS

Etc. I cna keep going with this but you get the general jist of it.

MG's also (for both clan and IS) have 0 heat output. you can spam your MG's when you risk over heating or in the lava with no penalties and it is hit scan weapon like flamers nad lasers meaning you can precisely hit it on the enemy and stuff.

7 x Cl MG = 5.6 DPS.

Now that is actually a lot... in 4 seconds that'll core any assault CT rear... in a few more seconds that mech is dead. So if you use your small high jumpjeting MASC very fast mech to go behind a few assault mechs that are at range snipping or a middle of a fight you can kill them in seconds.

The thing is you also have an Cl ER PPC... 15 damage (10 pinpoint, other 5 is pretty much wasted) with a DPS of 2,5 (pinpoint)

Also the range of this weapon and stuff will add to it's strengths quite well.

This gives the mech an all-round effective range and a good way to attack when you are to hot.

Note: One of hte first 5 mechs to break 1000 damage for me in a public match was a Locust 1V, before quirks came into the game or clans, it was with just 4 machine guns, 1 medium laser, but with 3 to 4 tons of ammo.

Those machine guns do pack a nasty surprised in a duration fight.

This is why I do not fear having a few machine guns on my larger mechs rather this be thunderbolt, battlemaster, or what have you.

Anyway, your 7 machine gun shadowcat is fun and all.

but it shall not be as fun as a 12 Clan machine gun, 2 Clan UAC 20 XL 400 Bane! :D*#

*Assuming clan battlemechs will be in game

#Assuming the Bane 1 can have a rating 400 engine. if not I'll go for the biggest either way

I see... Thank you for the very thorough, and informative reaponse! I'll have to give that 7MG S-cat a try when it comes out!

That Bane is a pretty wild looking mech! I'd look forward to seeing such a terrifying machine added to the game. 10 CUAC/2s STOCK?!? Madness!

And just look at the thing! Posted Image

When we DO start getting Clan Garrison mechs, the Jenner IIC better be in the first batch!
