Hi there,
Haven't played this game in a looooooong time. I was wondering what i should go for with a good missile & laser mech. From my earlier play session (in beta and at launch) i have bought a Yen-Lo-Wang, and 2x Catapult. The 2K and the C4. And then a spider. So.. Any suggestions on what to go after now?

the wolverine is a great mech for that combo. I also really enjoy ravens, which the event right now can earn you a 3L which is wonderful with dual SRM4's and a pair of ML's, the 2x also runs a LRM15 with 4 ML's which is also a lot of fun. for 65 ton mechs, the thunderbolt is a good one, and for a bit larger Stalkers are really good with those combos.

check this out for a complete list of all mech load outs, and play around with builds http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/

Definition of a laser an missile mech would be the Stalker.
Thing can't even mount anything else unless you go for its hero version.

Other than that both the Stormcrow and Timber Wolf can mount an amazing array but you'd have to invest into Clan tech for that.

by missile do you mean SRM or LRM?

any Centurion except the YLW or AH can do well with SRM + Lasers, as can the HBK 4sp and most 55ton Mechs, for Lights the Jenner JR7-D can carry 4 Medium Lasers + 2 SRM4 at 152.7KPH after speed tweak.

if you are after LRM + Lasers then the CPLT-C1 is pretty good, as are most of the Clan Heavies especially the Mad Dog, Hellbringer and Timber Wolf, in the Assault class the Stalker, BLR-3s and AWS-8R for IS or for Clans Warhawk-B with the Right Arm omnipod from the Prime gives you 4 missile hardpoints and 5 Laser hardpoints, allowing something crazy like this:

I was thinking about LRM, although on my C4 i have 4x Streak 2. I would like for the Missile mech to be a heavy or larger, just like the Catapult. and the laser mech to be either a medium or large. I haven't tried the clan thingie yet.

The Catapult C1 is my favourite IS laser/missile 'Mech.

About the Clans, again, the Timber Wolf is the best for lasers and missile configurations ;)

LRMs are a bad idea, they feel good because you're hitting guys from far away who can't hit back but in reality the damage you'll deal is not good and if the enemy have ECM or AMS or even use terrain properly you're out of luck. Also you'll get murdered by a light mech and laughed at.

No no no no.. I am afraid that you, my good sir are wrong. The Lights are laughing at me even before we start.
But see your point. Maybe i should try and upgrade the SRM's on my C4 instead of having Streak 2

My C4, i run dual LRM20's, a pair of streaks, + dual Small pulse and BAP.. It works pretty good. My C1, dual LRM 15's, 3 MPL's and Tag.. I like the C1 more, but my stats say i do better in my C4.. *shrug

Hunchback J is probably what you want. Its fast, packs 4ML, and has probably the fastest firerate of any LRM mech with its quirks for the dual LRM10.

My advice? Finish mastering your catapults first, if you never bought a third and if you do enjoy playing them. While you are running them, keep an eye out for enemy and friendly mechs that fit what you are looking for. Those you see a lot are probably the best choices. You should swap out your streak launchers for either SRMs or LRMs too. Streaks aren't near as overpowered as they once were.

Stalker 5M makes a heckuva combo laser/missile boat, usually LRM but people do SRM and even streak combos with them.

If you want to go assault, it's either the Stalker (if you like slow) or the Battlemaster (If you want speed). I can also suggest the King Crab because they make quite solid missile mechs with a good energy punch with the option for ballistics.

A medium energy/missile mech, look no further than the Griffin, but if you don't like JJs, go with the Kintaro. These LRM5 boats are happy little death machines. There are afficionados of the quirked out Trebuchets, and the Hunchback J is a monster as well. If those quirks ever change though... they're not gonna hold up.

If you want a heavy variant of this, Orions. Ignore the ballistics and go all in for the LRMs. The ON1-VA is the best LRM heavy the IS has to offer.

As for lights, you can do LRMs in a Jenner D, and the Panthers with similar results. The Jenner is faster, the Panther seems like it's tougher. Of course, if you want to spend real world money, the Oxide is possible but I've gotten mixed reviews from the polar ends of the spectrum.

As always... YMMV.

On the other hand, if you use your lrm's wisely, only firing at mechs that are out in the open and already heavily damaged, your team will hail you like a god.

And if you get nailed in the back by a light mech, blame your ally lights for NOT DOING THEIR JOB lol.

3xSRM6+ArtemisIV to avoid ghost heat (the 4th enters the scale of ghost heat). 1xLRM10+A to chasse anything that can flank you, or to kill time while the battle-lines take positions and/or maneuver. 2xMLas as backup, that can be changed to 2xSPulseLas if u feel aggresive enough. Maximum use of internal space. AMS slotted, can be changed to a BAP or more ammo/cooling, depends in ur playstyle, but is basically 1.5tons reserved for backup equiptment. 3xJJs for good mobility. XL300=80kph. Nearly maxed armour, mostly shaved from legs. 38% heat efficiency, this is, 2 alphas of 60 points in ur face before i even have to worry about not using the LRMs or MLas. Easy weapon grouping and use.
