Hey all. I did a quick search on the topic but came up empty handed.

I am wondering if the Hero Mech's are worth the cost? I have been piloting Ravens and just love them. I'm about to master the 3L and have the (C) version. Is the Huginn worth the cost? It seems with 4 ballistic slots and 2 SRMs it wouldn't be so hot.

I can take a 300 engine though with jumps so it's got that going for it.

Thoughts?

I like most of mine - and they are a lifetime (IE for as long as you drive them) increase to Cbills

Huginn is nice - and is (was?) rather meta with 2SRM4 (no MG) due to the quirks increasing it's rate of fire.
I have not driven mine since before quirks though (been working on mastering other mechs) so I cannot comment on it's state now

I own a Huginn, so I hope I can lend some good info.

It's stock loadout is a tad unusual, and in my personal opinion a tad over-engined at XL 280.

MG's biggest weakness is how they spread damage right now even with steady aim, so there are plenty of builds that ignore the arms solely for the torso weapons (had they been torso mounted, it might have been a different story though).

Next, Streak 2's are commonly said to need boating, since they favor targeting several exterior 'bones' against center mass, so only two is rather weak and wastes available tonnage due to existing hardpoints.

So that leaves SRMs as the best alternative.

Due to quirks SRM-4s are really good and can also benefit from Artemis. ASRM-6 can also be an option for at least one launcher for a bit more damage in a salvo, so such a mix is possible based on your experiences.

SRM 2s and ASRM 2s are also helped by reduced heat generation, as such not the first recommendation for Huginn builds.

The hero's arent better than the standard varieties, often worse.
But they do give bonus cbills and can be extra bit of variety, often a little unusual with a unique ability for the chassis.

Buying just to grind cbills probably not worth it.
Champions often have the better engine packaged which can be a lot of cbills value.
But if you like the hardpoints and think it will be good the play then go for it.

Good value when you get them in a mastery bundle.

Jester is my fav..... 87.7 KPH, Dual AMS with 5000k rounds + BAP, + dual JJ's, 4 pulse, 2 LL's, LL+MPL range... BAP range+ seismic.. what a fun mech!!

that said Or you can be a more solo player...using a thunderbolt, going 2 ERLL, 5 MPL, SKIP BAP, No AMS, No JJ's and run slower..

Honestly depends on the match.. But i do often run better C-bills with this mech... It does have more fire power... But playing a match like conquest.. the jester is better and more versatile, the T bolt, just has more UMPH..

I will say.. I can't wait for huggin to hit a sale, cause that is my next purchase, along with FANG... Ilya, and Misery, and Ember, are all worth buying though.. Out side of that i am not sure.

One last thing.. Most heros are darn good... As long as they have a loud out/weapons you like.. and the C-bill boost is nice...

personally... i wish we could spend 10k MC and make any mech we want a hero.. but i'm not sure that would ever happen :)

Heroes had a little more significance when they were the ONLY 30% XP / CBills ***** on the block.... But now with Champions being ramped up and every new pack coming with almost 3 variants per a mech, one being a "champion/hero", the significance wore down some.

MGs behave exactly like Lasers. They don't actually spread unless the enemy is torso twisting or you are strafing them. It only looks like they do due to the visual effects.

Nope, they got nerfed to have a spread. Last figures I saw, they inexplicably got a cone of spread worse than that of the CLB20X

Did they? I must have forgot. In any case I still use them and don't have a problem with them.

Awesome feedback guys! Thank you so much. I did end up picking up the Huginn last night and love it. I did replace the rockets with SRM6 and 4. It's going to take some getting used to but its very fun to pilot.

Hero mechs in general? Definitely.
The Huginn? Mixed feelings. I like it but as long as I've been playing I have the misfortune of my light mechs being in the same lump as the quick kill try hards, which takes my enjoyment away. During off hours (when there are less people on) I find it to be incredible fun.

Looks like you got it and are enjoying it.
I usually run the MGs + streaks or SRMs.
Occasionally I load up an XL 180 engine, AC/20, and a single MG or SRM on the side and try to ambush enemies. Just for something different.

Don't use SRM6. Stay with SRM4 on the Huginn. It has a significant 25% less cooldown and 12.5% more range on SRM4, so use that advantage. This small beast can spit out missiles at an insane speed, if you stick to SRM4. :)

Easy to test

Go into the testing grounds and stand back near their max range - you will damage almost every section on the Atlas (FC)

Get in closer and you damage less extra components
