Most people including myself that have had trouble getting it to work need to do two things. Make sure that at the bottom selector that your mic is selected. also the second slider bar "record level" slide it to the left, this lowers the amount of volume required for your voice to be picked up and generally solves the problem, I had to move mine down to 12 to pick up my mic.

If I push tjat push-to-talk button it do not even show me that I can speak.

When I push it, my name pops up at the bottom of the screen.

Not a ton of use so far... but it's new also.

Had a couple games though where 1-3 people on VOIP where both CLEAR and EFFECTIVE.

"Assault lance moving up on Sigma.
Legged a Jenner by Gamma.
Pull back from the assaults and hit C4, leave them behind for later"

That sort of thing.

As opposed to the muddy, mumbled "mmph dam mrphle thing blrrb" that about half the voip'ers seem to be doing.

Oh and the guy who clears his throat every minute with the mic on.

(edit: also, played 50-60 matches so far without a single troll or mute case)

Its a mixed bag but I like it. Ive had totally silent matches, trash talking matches, and really helpful/useful talk. So its a crapshoot. Its certainly better than it not being there, or having to deal with channel managing in TS or Ventrillo or whatever.

I am quite new to MWO and I was surprised VOIP was not already a standard feature, asset, of such team game. But I saw TS was used instead, so no worries, I though. As playing as PUG (? Hope is corret term) I was simply out of the voice chat that I assumed was going on with units's games...
Now I can say every match I play some one speak, maybe just few words to call out positions or ask for help, but it is very useful to me. I do not pay enough attention to text chat! Voice is more easy to me to follow.

Now, about speaking,.. I never said a word using VOIP, yet. Cos of my environment at home mainly. But I ll find the right time for it.

Finally, everyone just assume people canunderstand apoken English as they understand written English, thant is NOT trie. I feel enough confortable with spoken, due to my job, but I womder if everyone really can understand what is said on mic by someone who speak fast amd slang ;) not complaining, just to say that we shall effort to speak clearly and clean English, it would facilitate the team to follow instruction or understand. Not needed when you play with friends, that you can talk as you like :o

So, for me VOIP is great add to the game, for beginnera who can survive matchs and help team more than just feeling lost alone in the field.

One concerns, how do we mute people while playing, if they are just annoying? Is it possible?

The necropost intensifies.

Also, you can mute by using the tab menu.

In my matches it's rare that anyone but me talks. Sometimes there's another one. One single time it's been 3 or 4.

I just mute people as I'm usually listening to music or watching something while playing.

Or if they are American then they get instantly muted, they are far too overly friendly for my taste.

I've still not heard abusing VOIP yet, no swearing, no music, nothing. I play solo queue 100%.

I've been calling targets, flanks and pushing consistently, and about 50% of the time someone else will jump in too to call out something I hadn't seen. Communication and teamwork win games, so get on it.
