Just posting mad props to PGI for putting in VOIP (and putting it in as push-to-talk only). I am pleasantly surprised and delighted they did this and in my CW matches it has been truely a game changer. I predict much less whining from pugs about pre-starts now.

Thanks PGI!

The only real complainant I have is that it is auto turned on and was not expecting it and was unpleasantly surprised by it and had to hide behind a snow hill and powered down my mech in order to turn it off.

garbage like voip should never be auto on.....

I am just glad there wasn't anyone on to abuse it before I had a chance to turn it off.

though I am just waiting for others to attack those of us that hate or despise voip and won't use it.

only thing I truly am thankful for is it was made push to talk.

Voip is essential to a teamplay game, why do you so immaturely refuse to use it?

VoIP is NOT essential ...

essential for good teamplay are:

1. players who are aware of their teammate and actually do care about them ...

2. players who are aware of what happens on the battlefield and are able to make conclusions from it about what will happen next - like there is a light with Narcs on our flanks - so chances it will rain LRMs are increased ...

3. players who are willing to make a bold move and size opportunities when they show up ...

in my personal experience 90% don't fit in any of these, not to meantion all 3 (which is less than 1%). VoIP won't change any of that.

so it begins, lol

That is what I am talking about right there, one of the reasons I despise voip is because of abuse that can happen, I have seen, well more like heard because of something stupid, such as a new player making mistakes, or a not so new player yet not a 'vet' and then *****ing out a player or berating them because they are not as good as them.

Just think how bad it can get because of how easy and worse it can and most likely will get as that's how it always ends up happening with voip(look up any video with voip and you will see badly it fails and quickly.

@ MilesTeg1982
I agree one hundred percent.

Then mute the bad eggs and give a chance to those who use it constructively. It's as simple as that. You have no excuse save for laziness to do otherwise.

And just a note, perhaps you're rolling with blowhard l33t pros in high elos, or random scrubs in low elos, but wherever I am right now, I've only seen constructive use of VOIP.

Did I mention VOIP use on my teams, in my experience, almost guarantees a win as opposed to silent matches? ;)

it doesn't matter, I will leave voip off regardless of everything else, it will just get worse as time goes on and no point having voip on just having to turn it off in the middle of the battle later on just to shut them out.

I have had to put up with some(not all) founders who are so full of themselves that they think they are so much better than new players or those that get use to the controls regardless of other people's learning curve and berates them for not being as good as they are(who have been around since well the start of the game).

I have been on the receiving end of such a founder who was an *** to me just because I was ganged up on by seven mechs(if it wasn't for me he would have died first as I had scouted head for them and such reasons why many refuse to scout for their unit).

the insults from him if I didn't have such thick skin could have really bothered me instead of annoying me.
so if the insults was bad from text just think how much worse it could have been from that founder had voip been in place.

that and its annoying to have people ******** before the game is even started and not by normal players but at least one or two older players who then gripe about 'noobs' and I am tolking about actual NEW players who have been berated by them over text and yet seen no group moderation in the game by any other older players.

and it will just get worse and worse and more because of voip and as seen in many games with voip shows how fast it can turn to a ***** fest and insulting other players, heck gamesins on youtube covered this about one massive online game with voip in place).

so tell me why should I or anyone else have voip on when we see a few older players insult other (new/er)players and not put in their place by other older players to try and keep a good flow of the game?

I play for fun, not to be insulted by people who have forgotten what it was like to be new or who have a faster learning curve than others as everyone learns at their own pace.

so until I see the player base start to put those whom insult other players in their place I will not have voip on.

oh and on a side note I don't mind those that gripe about the map or the time of the map ether(day or night) as I gripe every now and again about the swamp(god I hate that map) as that's different from what I talked about above.

and as I said before why should I or others have to do that in mid battle when its just easier to take care of the whole problem by turning it off before the battle.

its still funny how you didn't even bother to address how the player base isn't governing themselves or older players such as founders helping to keep the game civil.

You're prematurely jumping to assumptions that you'll be surrounded by incompetence when it very well could be the opposite.

In my experience people are only being helpful. Otherwise, what do you want me to say? This is about VOIP, not the community's tendency to be *******. Mute the *******, leave the good eggs.

as I said in the other thread one would have to stop and block or mute the 'bad' eggs leaving you at risk of being taken out because you have to go prone in order to do that and you don't have access to the mouse pointer unless you bring up the menu.

besides its my experience with voip in the past that soured me to voip.
I see it turn bad every time so I guess the old saying is 'once bitten twice shy'

I don't trust voip and to be honest I don't trust the player base either. I came to play not to talk or hear others talk.

I don't know which game you are playing but its certainly not the same MWO as I know it from more than 10.000 matches ...

sadly there are a lot of players who are incompent - just watch the lightshows and trolls in the chat at the start ...

from my personal view - even if all those trolls and imature people simply would not exist - I would not bother with VoIP - simply for the reason that I work as a consultant and spend the whole day at work in meetings and/or conference calls ... on some days I simply don't want to listen or speak to anyone when I'm off work. Considering now that sadly a lot of these trolls do exist - No - I won't use VoIP in any Pug ever!

@Miles
I don't trust the player base at all when it comes to voip. to easily abused and a so what if you can 'block' them at the start or having to pull up a different menu to block each person which still requires to go prone to deal with it.

much easier to turn it off for good and not bother with as it will prevent from having to put up with garbage later on.

I deal with people six to eight hours a day and just want to sit down and relax and enjoy some mech action and not listen to people.

if I want to hear people I would talk to other people around me.

VOIP, so far, has been an overwhelming success. I've yet to hear one player "abuse" it. Most people don't talk at all, but when they do it has been helpful every time. Calling targets, pointing out flanks, etc. All the stuff that we do as a matter of course in our unit groups.

I've read through quite a few of these threads and the people who talk about "abuse" shut it off before ever having experienced what they complain about. I say to them, PLEASE never use voip and ALWAYS be on the red team...

As for me, I'll continue to use it when not on our unit's ts. I think it leads to better games. Thanks PGI

It should be on by default to encourage people to use it. I've played maybe 10 matches so far and it's all been positive and no negatives at all. So I think it's a good change. The only negatives I've seen so far are people like the guy in this thread who whine on about how they have to turn it off because of reasons. Which is totally ironic.

So far I've only seen VoIP abused once, and seen it used well a couple times. It beats having to look up the TS server for whatever guild I see the most of and join their TS in another tab frantically while the match starts...

I did see it get sorta abused twice. I'm guessing we'll have a lot of trolls this weekend, and then hopefully they'll get bored or banned.

Player1: "Hey player2, you might want to stay closer to the group so we can support you."
Player2: "**** you. You can't tell me what to do. You ******** aren't the boss of me"

Another game...
Player1: "What guild is ABCD?"
Player2: "Why do you want to know?"
Player1: "Just curious who I'm dropping with."
Player2: "Shove that curiosity up your ass."

Meh, whatever. I can mute that. (All names changed to protect the guilty)

lol, its not whining when one is burnt before in games that use voip.
sure it started out well but then slowly went south until it was not worth using. so forgive me for being sour when it comes to voip.

its like they say, 'once bitten, twice shy'

so why should I or others see it any differently warner2?

its not the matter of if but when and I can guarantee you it will happen and when it does....

"I did see it get sorta abused twice. I'm guessing we'll have a lot of trolls this weekend, and then hopefully they'll get bored or banned."

you really think they will ban them? remember we are suppose to moderate ourselves so unless you can also prove it I don't see them doing anything.

which is another problem with voip unless you have audio recording unlike text its he said she said.

I've had the exact opposite experience with VoIP in a F2P game.

I've been playing about 5-10 hours/week of STO for the past four years. I think it's been a year since I heard anyone say anything on the integrated VoIP. Nothing. Silence.

Two years ago I heard one guy say "nice game" (with sincerity, not ironic) after the end of a PvE match where most of the players on our team were horrible. Worst game I'd played and he was patting himself on the back. Meh, whatever.

Three years ago I heard some dude's dog barking because he was holding down his push-to-talk button without realizing it.

Never heard anything I'd consider abusive.
