You are limited to the number of energy hardpoints on your particular locust. Here's smurfy's site that has a lot of great info.

So which Locust do you have?

The locust would be a tough mech to start out in. The 1E and 3M are the variants with lots of energy hardpoints, making them the best locusts (pirates' bane is good too). What variant have you got?

Press "MechLab" up the screen, then "All" in the left side, then "Configure" in the mech u want to configure. You cant configure trial mechs, you need to buy a mech to configure it. There press "Loadout" in the left side. Now u can see all the parts of the mech listed in the left side (components). Go to a part where the mech has an energy weapon hardpoint. A new mini-menu will open in that part showing remarked in blue each of the possible things u can place in that component of the mech. You can see "Energy", "Ballistic", "Missile" (of these 3, either u have or u dont a specific component), "Equiptment", "Ammo" and "Engine" (this last only in InnerSphere mechs and only in the Center Torso component). There just click "Energy" and the menu will open with the component in the left side of the box and the box showing which ones u can place. If all the energy hardpoints are full, they will show in red. If there is a slot, you will see which ones u can BUY AND MOUNT, this is, the ones that u have CBills to buy and enough weight to mount in the mech.

Hope it helps :)

The 1V? You only get the CT energy hardpoint on that one. The rest is the four ballistic hardpoints (two on each arm) and the AMS. No other energy weapons for that little guy.

If you still have problems, have a look here: http://www.howtoplay...ml/loadout.html

The 1V can fit a total of five weapons: 4 ballistic (2 in either of the "arms"), and 1 energy weapon in the center torso. You can fit up to a Large Laser in there (PPCs are too big once your engine is in place).

Here's a good build for a 1V:

LCT-1V

Mechs have quirks, boosts to specific weapons, and the 1V's "weapon of choice" is the ER Large Laser. Hang to the back of the crowd of your teammates and use your speed to peek and shoot. Never hold still in a Locust.

They're a very tough mech to be effective in, but they're a lot of fun. Good luck!

It's hard to explain without showing either a video or screenshot. Each mech part usually has icons that show what weapons and how many, if any.

For example, The spider center torso will show a red picture with the number 1. That picture indicates that you can fit 1 of that type of weapon. I think red lightning means lasers, yellow "bullets" mean ballistics, green "big bullets" mean missiles and purple "cross-hair" mean ams (i think i got the pictures wrong; colour codes are correct...i think)

I'd go with 2 machine guns on one arm instead of the AMS but that's a solid build. Any 1V built around an ER large laser is a good 1V.
If you're sorta crazy you can also try the large pulse laser, it doesn't benefit from quirks as much and a large pulse doesn't leave you room for anything besides an engine, your required heat sinks and armor, but it's viable as far as Locusts go.

The most basic build.

PGI's highly quirked build.

(Mech quirks.)

My build. Tacked with an advanced zoom module.

The most basic build. Personally i'd revise it to this http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b8f1f27516c02db more ammo reliable (ams doesn't need as much with the toggle) and the DHS are an unnecessary cash sink for a new player on something so heat efficient anyway, allows use of FF armour too.

PGI's highly quirked build.

(Mech quirks.)

My build. Tacked with an advanced zoom module. Not enough heatsinks - not allowed? Odd.

Quite right. Thought it was a little odd to have so much extra tonnage for weapons.
Fixed. Can be done with standard or double heatsinks.

On both videos skip to about 6 minutes in.

Slightly OT in that it's not a locust but here's my Spider 5K if you want light mech ballistic fun with not one but two ac2's...........Quite cheap (if you buy the standard 5K) even with the small XL engine.

Back on topic this is also a good Energy based Locust:
