This is the reason everyone practically says you have to have an XL engine.

I know its on the forum somewhere. If you need more ideas on the catapult check metamechs.com mwo-builds.net. I run my founders cat with 2X A-LRM15's, 3X ML, Tag, BAP, and endo. I run a standard engine. Also, if you do LRMS get the target tracking module.

Seriously get some point defence - MLs and SLs. Met too many builds with stalkers and cats - all lrms. Sat in front of them slowly melting their faces off. Met a terrible build last night with some ones Trebuchet 5N with one LRM20 and ams and nothing else...so so so sad....

In the "Search" bar on this forum, type "Hit box localization."
You want the one with a Z, not an S (the S is outdated).

Note that it'll take a short while after mechs are released before more come up there.

I'm running 700+ damage matches with:

CPLT-C4, 255xl, 2 x LRM15, TAG, ERLgLas, AMS, Beagle and 7 tons of ammo.

Since you shouldn't be in brawling range (300m) of a fight, the ERLgLaser gives you some pinpoint for carving off torsos and limbs after the missiles have shredded them.

you... cant have a tag and an ER on that catapult. the energy points are both CT and the ER is 2 crit slots, aka takes all the CT space. did you mean the C1?

That aside, i spent a very very long time playing and loving my catapults. many of the things others have said are how i feel as well. i used to have an old computer so i played a lot of LRMs and got quite good with them, whatever anyone wants to say about their skill level.

The C1, for me, has always been my favorite. its my founders mech. i usually ran 2x Artemis LRM-15, 3 Mediums, 1 TAG, XL-300, a couple jumpjets, BAP and ammo to taste. with quirks this build got even better recently.

The C4 in my opinion is in an odd place. it has LRM-20 quirks, but with the 4 missile hardpoints and only two energy it can really feel like you have little to no close range. best i used to do was 2x artemis lrm 20 2x streak-2, 1 medium and a tag, but im not sure how that goes these days.

The A1 is an all or nothing boat, in my opinion. either go all LRM (6x LRM-5, no artemis in this case because of the tight LRM grouping and volume of launchers) or all SRM (the oldschool "splatcat") they are both good builds but very niche.

the K2 is a direct fire build. used to be renowned as the best gauss platform, these days its mostly ER LL or PPC setups. it does not have jumpjets, but its weapons are pretty high up.

Basically, all catapults (the A1 Splatcat excepted) wants to be sitting behind the first line, preferably with its flanks covered so its harder to get behind it. positioning is important, as if you get caught you're fairly easy to kill (squishy CT) so thats why i like running the faster engines to help keep tight to the group. focus down big targets (assaults, heavies etc) and use your lasers only when you have to!
