hey there, looking to see if this is a common problem. im currently running the game on my system and i just upgraded the cpu, and now im getting a ton of freezing! i used to get this error all the time and it just sorta went away.
essentually this is what happens.
i'll be in a match, the screen will lock up (but i can still move, like, the screen doesnt change but i can hear my footsteps, and sounds of my guns firing, so the game hasnt crashed out...)
then i can either leave it, or tab out and tab back to have it fix itself. sometimes though, it'll just crash out completely saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. display driver NVIDIA windows kernel mode driver, version 347.25 stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
followed by some giant fatal error about present returned status DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
i've had a lot of friends with similer issues, ive tried updating my drivers, i've tried rolling back my drivers. and its not my system specs.
currently running an i7 4790k stock clock speeds, and a 760gtx at stock speeds, mobo is a gigabyte z97x-sli, and PSU is a corsair CX-750

Ive been getting similar errors from my graphics card lately, but they aren't frequent. I'm using a galax exoc black edition gtx 970.
Maybe the problem will go away come the next version of the drivers.

this happens every match given enough time, and even in training grounds. it almost seems like a heat issue, but i don't see why my videocard would be overheating o_O
also, it used to do it all the time, but it went away, adn only does it now since i upgraded my cpu. which also shouldn't be overheating as im using a decent aftermarket cooler, and no OC.

I used to have something like that. The screen would freeze and "alt tabing" out and back in the game would fix this. I never got any message though and the game very rarely crashed when this happened.
I haven't faced this problem in a while now but it might be just luck.

Part of it is the video card... part of it is the game (occasionally/generally overworking the video card needlessly).
The more often this issue happens, the more likely the video card is not holding up well with the game. Consider downclocking or making sure the cooling is exceptional for the video card (you may need to clean it out).

i just cleaned out the videocard, its spotless, and i have 5 120MM fans ventilating the case, i have a hard time believing this is a natural occurance of heat. i'll try downclocking it for MWO, but this seems counterintuative, i just ******* upgraded my board and cpu so i could run a stream in higher quality, and now MWO doesnt like my card? are you ******* kidding me? this is extremely frustrating... and its the only game this happens in.
im going to run some benchmarks to be sure though.

If you're running windows 7 or higher the display driver has stopped responding and recovered is a common problem that i also used to get plagued with. It's due to the windows TDR being too aggressive and deciding to basically reset your graphics card if it takes too long to send the requested information.
I have an Nvidia GTX 650 which i discovered was factory overclocked by default, i manually reduced the clock speeds via my bios and it's cut down on these errors considerably to a point they are now happening rarely.
If you are getting the timeout error regularly i recommend you try that first, i tried every other supposed "fix" on the internet including manually changing the TDR in the registry, and none of them worked until i tried the bios route. Definitely worth a try

Try changing your graphics settings from "Full Screen" to "Full Window". It solved a lot of issues for me

I spent 40 hours playing through Far Cry 4 on max settings. Not one CTD or screen freeze. I play Warthunder on max settings. No CTDs.
Yet, since the last patch I experience crashes in MWO every evening.
