Hey guys and gals!

I know i haven't been active on the forums much, but i just wanted to first off say what an amazing community! Very cool to see so many mechwarrior's sharing ideas and thoughts ;)

Anyways.. I have always been a huge fan of the Battletech CCG game, and recently got back into it with a couple of good friends. Everything rule wise seems to be remembered well, but i pose a couple of questions to the community in order to clarify my thoughts.

1. A mech can be sent to Guard only on his Mission Phase, when a mech is placed on guard for a certain target.. it is for all intensive purposes, permanently blocking.. unless pulled off of guard duty at a later mission phase.

-if this is the case, an opponent could not declare the stockpile a target unless the mech was defeated first? And if the mech guarding is challenged, does the defending player still TAP this mech in return? or is blocking always presumed because of the guarding nature?

2. If a Guarding mech has the Alpha Strike ability, if said mech uses this in a combat, the guarding mech would be depleted. If a guarding mech is depleted, is the site it is defending now open for an attack in the same mission phase?

That's all i really had to ponder about from our last game, i would love to hear your ideas and interpretation of how this would work :)

Cheers

IIRC. A guard mech could block an attack by any mech, regardless of speed. So if you attacked the opponent's stockpile with a couple fast mechs, a guarding slow mech could block that attack. Now if any of your attacking mechs had long range or missles, you could still hit the stockpile just like any other attack. If your guard mech alpha strikes and is depleted during a mission, it would be unavailable for any further missions until it is untapped.

Thank you for your input! I firmly grasp how mechs block and the speeds of said mechs, i guess what still seems to be convoluted is the calling of targets with missiles that are guarded by a mech.

Example:

I have an atlas guarding my stockpile (slow mech), but regardless of his speed he can block anything that attacks. My opponent, on his mission phase sends out a MadCat (has missile 3) to attack. The opponent from my understanding can not declare the stockpile a target because it is already being blocked/guarded by my Atlas. He would have to take down the Atlas before attacking the stockpile directly. I also dont believe you can use missiles directly on a said target (ie stockpile) while it is being guarded.

If my stockpile had no defender sitting in front of it, and my opponent declared his missile role and mech damage to attack the stockpile, i could move a mech of equal speed or faster to block.. but no matter what the missiles will still hit the stockpile.

Thoughts and ideas?

Cheers ;)

From my understanding, once a mech is tapped its out of play unless it gets attacked directly. So if its tapped/depleted while guarding something, any subsequent attacks can go through as if there was no mech at all.
