Hi everyone!
I've been using the PPC family for about a month now, and I wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing the same thing as I am.
Quite often I see the PPC bolt explode in mid air when it gets close to the edge of hills and other terrain. Also, it seems to not be able to shoot through very large gaps in structures, or between independent structures. I think this is probably pretty uniform for everyone.
However, it seems that the bolt size does not interact with mechs the same way, where the edge of the PPC bolt will often not connect with a standing mech. It seems you need to hit with the center of the PPC bolt to actually make a hit on a mech.
Is this experience unique to me?
TL;DR: The edge of a PPC bolt is large and seems to explode when near-brushing terrain. However, only the center of the PPC bolt seems to count when interacting with stationary or moving mechs.

LOL.
Okay, well about the terrain clipping, would shrinking the PPC bolt hit box reduce terrain clipping? I'm thinking of putting it in the suggestion forum, but just wanted to ask around in case I'm experiencing a bias.

No, because terrain hitboxes are already known to be messy in many cases. It is likely nothing wrong with the ppc, but with the terrain instead. Unless you've had other weapons pass through the same space. In which case, yeah, an issue with ppc hitbox/hitreg

Yeah, it's probably not the PPC bolt, it's the terrain hitbox that is larger than the visual terrain. PGI's maps are notorious for this issue, it can be seen on all maps, and frankly, it's sometimes quite frustrating.

The MWO maps are full of invisible walls. It's a long-standing issue.
Back in closed beta, PPC did actually have a huge projectile, which got caught on everything.

PPC bolts were originally made as big as they are because hitreg used to be much worse than it is now, and that was the only way most players could actually hit anything with them.
It's a bit annoying now, but I'll gladly take a minor drawback on what is still a great weapon despite all the nerfs.
Edit: also ^^^ this stuff, terrain hitboxes are really bad in certain places.

However you will be a boss at UAV removal by using your PPC or erPPC. (try it!)

Yeah lol, the hit reg and terrain clipping, alongside the terrible dmg/heat ratio makes PPCs absolutely miserable.
