I just got the game today and need help with installing the 260 engine.
It says it's too heavy for my current stock build, what should I do?

Use english as I'm a complete beginner

The Hunchback comes stock with a 200std engine
Which weighs a total of 13.5 tons (counting required heatsinks)

The 260 STD weighs 19.5 tons

You will need to free up another 6 tons to equip it.

Try going into the "Upgrades" section and adding Endo Steel (lighter/bulkier skeleton) for another 2.5 tons space

Hi,

If you are new today, and havent played the first 25 games, and didnt use real money to buy a mech, and are trying to modify a 'Trial' mech, you can not modify it.

You need to OWN your own mechs before you can modify them.

If it is telling him it is to heavy - then he has got into the mechlab

Also - players who have not finished their first 25 matches are labeled as "recruit" in the forum

So he has at least finished those two things
(or he bought it with MC)

Use smurfy to play around with your build before you spend money in the game.

As Shar stated, the original engine is 13.5 tons and the 260 engine is 19.5 tons.

You can gain and lose tonnage by adding or removing various objects. Weapons. Armor. Upgrades.

On the mechlab, choose your HBK-4P.
Next, click configuration.
Now click upgrades.
Choose Double Heatsinks and Endo Steel. (See end of post for explanation)
Now click back.
Now click Loadout.
Now put in a 250 to 260 engine as you intended. (If you're using a STD engine, I suggest 250 instead).
You should now add armor to Both legs and Center Torso.
To round out the armor, take 2 points of armor away from the cockpit.
If you used a Standard 250 engine you now have 10 tons free to work with.
If you used a standard 260 engine you now have 9 tons to work with.

Add any additional double heatsinks and change weapons as you see fit. I recommend trading out the small laser, as well as putting in 2 Large Lasers or a PPC or two alongside the medium lasers.

At the beginning of this video you can see me changing the loadout of my Hunchback 4P.

Also includes gameplay with said mech.

Explanations:
Endo Steel is a different kind of metal that, if we had repair and rearm (which we don't), would be far more expensive to repair as a con as well as consuming many slots. The plus side which is you get 5% of the mech's total weight freed up and available to you for use (in this case 2.5 tons more free weight).

Double heatsinks: Weigh the same as standard heatsinks but are 3 slots instead of 1 slot (easier to break). They cool much faster than standard heatsinks as well as giving you a higher threshold before shutdown (your "100%" will be harder to reach before a shutdown, since your mech can take more heat).

Acually, he is still a recruit, it's just that it's not told up front any more. You'll see it when you hover your mouse over his name.

At OP, I'd reccomend buying an STD 250. You have the same amount of internal heatsinks at less tonnage and slightly less speed.

STD 250 Laserback to replicate the trial design.

STD 200 Partyback for maximum trollage and overheating (this is most certainly not what you want to play aas a beginner, but I made the abomination, so I might as well share it).

The new player help section is generally very friendly. Bring any questions you have out here.

Good luck.

One thing you'll find is that in nearly all cases you'll want to upgrade to Double Heat Sinks; on many mechs you'll want to upgrade to Endo Steel (but don't do this blindly - have an idea of what you want to do first so you don't waste your money) and on light mechs you may also want Ferro-Fibrous armor ... all in addition to tweaking weapons or swapping engines.

This can, on some mechs, cost as much as the base mech itself. Sure, it's playable stock but you'll find most do better after you tweak and upgrade them.

You can use Smurphy to plan your upgrades - you can see two links above. The main link is:
http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/

I'd also suggest you maybe go over into the medium mechs forum here and look for some sample builds or ask for some to get you up and running with a few different HBK models.

Do you understand how leveling and XP works?
