I don't have a lot of experience with clan Mechs in general, Timberwolf included. Recently I bought my first Timberwolf though, the TBR-C (see links). Now of course I want to master said chassis and the build with dual UAC10's made it clear I've got to master the Timberwolf (have to mention I tried 2 or 3 builds before I arrived at this build) .

I noticed the timberwolf isn't really the best ballistic clan Mech so I wanted to get an SRM and LRM mad cat after the UAC10 build. Can you guys give your opinion on the builds I want to buy? I would appreciate it Posted Image, other builds are welcome too of course.

Regarding the splat-cat.... I run 4srm6 (no Artemis) and a uac20, 3ersl.

It's more an alpha, due to heat, but I wouldn't change it. Not many mechs can last a second shot from it.)

I think the lrm is not a good primary weapon for the timber. 2lrm 10s as a back up to a primary laser load-out isn't a bad idea.

Probably because the ST hitboxes get huge right? When I would equip 1 lrm10 in each ST, will they first go into the upper part or the lower part?

Nothing to do with hit boxes, although yes the st on the timber seem massive.

More to do with lrms not really being a great weapon, and kinda being a waste of tonnage on the timber.

2 x cUAC10, 3 x cERSL,1 x JJ. Personally i find the dual uac10 and erml to hot but if you can handle the heat it a good build Posted Image

Since i got 2 ebons with 2 x cUAC10, 3 cERSL i find it works better on that mech especially because of the timber TBR-A left torso negative quircks. 4 x cSRM6+A, 5 x cSPL, 2 x JJ. dropped the TC since it doesn't benifit the srm and effect on cSPL minimal. 4 x cSPL work to.

5 x cMPL,1 x cTAG, 3 x cLRM5+A, 2 x JJ. I made this one up i generaly dont play lrm boat or hybreds so it theorycrafting. I don't like anything bigger then LRM 5 on timber because it make the ears on his shoulders huge. you can fire the lrm 5 all at once withouth ghost heat.

Alternatives:
drop artemesis for extra 3 tons free
drop amount JJ to 1 (need TBR-S CT) or 0 for extra 1-2 tons free
replace cTAG for cMPL 1 ton heavier
Add or replace cTAG with cBAP
  • I am surprised you din't mention laser boat. Incase you intrested puzzle around 2 x cLPL, 3-5 cERML, 0-2 JJ, 0-1 TC1. See what works.

A laser boat would also be a good idea, think I'll just drop the lasers and backup lrm's build and go for a full laser vomit boat.
Would for example this build work? http://mwo.smurfy-ne...73a70d6d0a1fd0b

Don't think so the problem is the range difference of both weapons. The spls force you to go close while the lpl force you to keep your distance.
  • 2 x cLPL, 3-5 x cERML, 2 x JJ, TC1.
TBR-A

TBR-A

The amount of cERML depend if you want a bigger alpha for les sustained dps or lower alpha but higher sustaned dps. 3-4 x cERML can be put on any timber if you want 5 you need one with laser CT.

pro
losing a torso you still have half the power.
cons
weapon pretty low so it hard to hill peek with it.

  • high mounted version (full tbr-a onipods)
2 x cLPL, 3-4 x cERML, 2 x JJ, TC1.

TBR-A
TBR-A

The full tbr-a omnipods for neutralizing the high mount tbr-a left torso i think i give you even some postive torso turn quirck in full set.
Pro
2 x lpl and 1 erml high mounted so you can hill peek or only expose half your mech.
cons
Your left torso is evrything lose it and you almost a stick with no weapons.

Thanks for the tip Palfatreos. I came up with this TBR-A laser vomit build on your advice. I definitely wanted some JJ's and a TAC. Also this build is somewhat alphastrike/DPS balanced, I can easy change if I want to.

It's a shame I can't use the remaning 0.46 tons for the TBR-S splatcat, but on paper this build already looks promising. I like brawling so I'll put it to good use! Posted Image

TBR-S

Dropped the head armor to 16 enough to withstand 2 gauss and took away a lower arm slot for an extra half srm ammo.

Gotta say I disagree.
I run this build, try different things, but always come back to this- prime bonus as well.

so well rounded, makes GREAT money- and those LRM's are an asset. Early one to aggravate, later on to get an assist when, if all went well, you're chasing down the last couple of enemy mechs.
Dont spam the lrms, they are for kill assists, keeping their head pinned down. Salvo, target a new mech, salvo. So many pugs get targeted and they will abandon a push, or leave an ally.
seismic, LRM10 module for distance, and your choice of distance modules on the various lasers, or adv. targeting. makes money even on a loss.

Use PRIME torso omnipods.

ERPPC, 2-UAC2s (4 tons ammo), TAC-5.

Your minimum range is 810m, use it! With this build (thanks to the TAC-5) you'll be able to snipe at longer ranges with relative ease (ERPPC travels 30% faster with TAC-5 boost, same with UAC2s).

It might seem unimpressive at 14 damage per alpha, but those UAC2s add up in damage and travel faster then a gauss slug (plus they make a really good intimidation weapon since nobody likes taking constant fire)!

The only weapons that can counter you at range are LRMs, ERLLs and gauss rifles. Most everything else will do next to no damage so you can pretty much keep up the fire and harassment tactics while taking very little damage in return.

Jumpjets are just icing on the cake. Everything mounted in the torso (aside from the arm-mounted TAC-5) means you have excellent weapon groupings and firing capability (ridge firing). Both arms can double as shields for even more survivability.

But don't think you can brawl at close range. The closer you are to minimum range (810m) the better (sinace, well.. anything farther would be really hard to hit unless its a direwhale).

I cant imagine being happy if i saw this on my team...

The ST hitbox does get pretty massive using both the ear and uh.. secondary(?) tubes on the Timber. Even on a splat cat, the ST is pretty vulnerable.

People have their opinions about lrms in general, but the Timber can be a very good lrm mech. I've been changing up the builds on my Timbers since I almost never pilot them these days.

I will say that you had better bring a lot of lrm ammo if you want to primarily be a lrm mech. Lrms are pretty heavy and require a lot of ammo to get decent damage out of them, meaning low damage + big lrms = dead weight halfway through a match. While it sacrifices jump jets and more lasers, the TBR-D side torsos will maximize your lrming capabilities with double LRM-10s.

Very roughly, something like this: TBR-PRIME

Could change out to small lasers and bring even more ammo, personal preference I guess.

I have been having a surprising amount of success with this TBR-Prime PPC sniper build. Many times I have scored 600+ damage. Equip it with an advanced zoom module, which is pretty much a must, and a ER PPC range module. Makes a deadly sniper capable of delivering 30 points of damage out to 1 kilometer.
Just 2 things to be warry of.
1. Protect your left shoulder. If you loose it you're gimped for pretty much the whole round.
2. Make sure you chain fire the PPCs!! A single Alpha will overheat you.

Being quite conservative I brought up Aidan Prydes Timber Wolf config. 2x ER Large Lasers, 2 Medium Lasers, 2x 20 LRMS and a small Laser for backup. If you can manage the heat and stay out of brawling it's quite a punch.
