0.0 No bump for all of September?! Slackers!

We require more Vespian Gas... err... pilots! Yea, pilots!

We opened a new company and we need pilots to fill it. Let's get out there, kill some mechs and construct additional pylons!

As Fluttershy would say, "yay"!

Its been a while since we've posted, but the FLH is open to recruiting new Steam players, as well as those who have been with the game for a while.

http://forlornhopemercs.enjin.com/home

We have two active companies running currently, and are looking to fill them both to max capacity.

Posted ImageThe Forlorn Hope is still recruiting those looking for a semi-competitive, Community Warfare-based unit. We welcome all skill levels, with the willingness and patience to train. All members must be 18+ and have a team-orientated mindset. The FLH takes both Clan and Inner Sphere contracts, switching up every 2 weeks.

You can catch us in CW or Pub play wearing the FLH tags. Any who are interested, please PM Niebel or Wolf Clearwater on the forums, or shoot us an in-game message (look for the FLH tags)

Sorry for the late post troops!

Since some of our newer film is still in development, I will give a rundown of what happened in our most recent posted video, which was filmed by our own clanwolf3050 (thanks clan). To view this you can either scroll up a bit, or view it in the link below.

Your drop commander for the day was yours truly.

As a general practice, I try to place a scout on top of the gate to keep an eye on the enemy's movement. Even with this our enemy managed to keep us guessing by destroying both gates. So I did what any good commander does, and made an educated guess and decided they would go through Bravo gate and ordered my team to group up E4, keeping my bases covered by leaving a scout at the opposite gate. The enemy came in exceptionally heavy, though failed to use their force as effectively as possible. Rather than clogging D4/E4, they should have dedicated a number of mechs to the D3/E3 as well, which would have allowed them to wrap around us. Of course they did manage to get a King Crab behind us, which caused us a significant amount of grief, and could have been prevented by just one man in tour line watching the rear. This, however, was not enough to make up for the main force's hesitation and predictable movement, and their wave of assault mechs was cleared with relative success as a result.

The second wave pushed directly into our main force through E5/E4. At first it looks as though they have broken through our main line, though they failed to consider the impact of our mechs in the crater which proved to be on obstacle for them since all of their mechs that had pushed through were now forced to fight on two fronts, a reason I personally do not often use this tactic on this portion of the map. This hang-up provided time for our main line to reverse into cover and reform, the end result being us forming a crescent firing line, which spells death for any advance.

The third push was likely our biggest blunder, where we got the sense that the enemy was about to hit the opposite gate and I gave the order to reorient. I had failed to consider that our PUGs were inexperienced with defending this side of the map, and may try to get right next to the gate instead of taking the D4/F4 position of cover. This thinned our forces and allowed the enemy to bash past an inadequately sized counter-force and push into our base through Bravo gate. Luckily they chose to start hitting generators instead of attacking the remainder of our split forces, which allowed our new drops and remaining forces to regroup and hit them from all sides.

Their fourth and final wave was light and fast from the Alpha gate, and was a last ditch effort to run past us and destroy our generators. Though, having failed to cause significant damage to our generators and turrets previously, this attack fell short of its goal quickly and was mopped up by our forces with relative ease by comparison to the previous pushes.

Anyway! If you enjoyed this week's Battlefield Breakdown, just "Like This" post, and tune in next week!

Okay Troops!

Today we will be breaking down one of our PUG matches!
Footage is a little older, but my cameramen need some time to develop our new film so-to-speak! Speaking of which, I'd like to give a shout-out to Crusader Stone, the camera-man and star of the video. I would also like to give a shout-out to Deluth, who appears in this video and is one of six new recruits. I salute you sir!

Now on to the good stuff.

Crimson Strait is an interesting map, there is tons of terrain to work with, though you can frequently assume that the majority of the fighting will take place nearby the parking garage and the tunnel, with perhaps a few outlying mechs on the ridges facing this area. As such, commonly I will give the order to take position at the top of the parking garage, because frankly 9 times out of 10, the high ground is the best ground, especially with building and hill cover.

The real curve-ball this match was the detachment of lights sent to capture our base. These maneuvers can be devastating, especially when allied response is too slow, or too big. In this case however, we saw them coming, precisely 3, and sent 4 of our own to deal with the problem.

Unfortunately, a lance on our team, unaware of our mobilization plan, sloppily attempted the same maneuver, leaving our main force a outnumbered. This is where confidence and positioning came into play. The enemy hit fast and hard up the concrete ramp, attempting to charge us with heavy mechs backed by LRM's. We countered by backing into the buildings and forming a solid firing line, chocked full of autocannons. The enemy could not hold their position and was pushed back down into the garage.

During this time, our detachment managed to push the lights off of our base, who subsequently left to engage the strung out lance. They destroyed them piecemeal, and continued on to rejoin their main force, Pushing up the hill over the garage.

With luck, and some well aimed shots, we fired down at the incoming assailants, pushing them back as our detachment force rejoined the battle. Our detachment firing into the cluster of battlemechs, the enemy was now in disarray. I gave the order to drop down into them, and their fate was sealed.

Alrighty Troops, it's time for another battlefield breakdown!

This match was hard fought, and hard won. A shout out to Blackthornes Dragoons for an excellent match.

Going into the match, I gave the order to destroy both gates and sets of turrets to give us a factor of unpredictability. Next I decided to hit the left gate, since generally it takes teams out of their comfort zones. I figured the enemy was dropping with a lot of weight for their first drop, so I went in knowing we very well may lose our first engagement. Through intel or luck they managed to get into position to counter us, though this did not bother me, as my goal was to soften up the enemy for our next push. We slammed into the enemy and accomplished this rather well (with the exception of my overheating like a doof).

In our next push we pushed heavy and fast through the right-hand gate with the informed assumption that the enemy would not be able to hold us, and would likely try to put distance between themselves and our assaulting force. It worked out precisely as planned and we managed to get into an ideal position to destroy turrets and generators as the enemy stumbled to respond with their battered mechs. Unfortunately, during this time 5 of our guys broke off to fight a shadowhawk in our rear flank, which I had to correct mid-battle. Fortunately we managed to knock out a few generators, all of the turrets and once again softened up the new incoming battlemechs.

On our third push I decided that we needed a new angle from which to hit gens, and gave the order to charge through the left gate. The enemy, having retreated to the confines of their base allowed us to wrap around them through the left-hand system of buildings. This gave us several firing lines into their mechs which were more or less out in the open as a result of our previous push. With superior terrain and fresher mechs, we managed to wipe them out and destroy the remaining generators.

For our final push, all we had to do was rush the Omega generator. Predictably the entire enemy team would be standing in front of it, so we moved as one from the right gate through the buildings to minimize enemy fire as we approached. Springing out with the majority of our forces focused on Omega, and a lance focused on swatting enemy forces, we managed to destroy Omega and secure victory.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks Battlefield Breakdown. I hope you all "Like This" post, and tune in next week!
