As per the title. I bought a lenovo y50 not too long ago and have been pretty happy with it. However, I'm not very tech savvy and I've seen a lot of interesting info on these forums from people who know computers much better then I do. As such, I'm looking to get help optimizing my mwo experience on my laptops. Some examples of help I would like:
there's some writing on config files here to do numerous things, what would be best for my hardware.
my y50 is defaulting to the intergrated chip instead of its gtx as soon as it's unplugged regardless of my settings. Ice read that Lenovo overwrites any other settings and forces the switch, so setting default nvidea Graphics Isnt Working. Any workaround that doesn't involve voiding warrantee?
my understanding is that mwo is very cpu bound. Is there a bottleneck?
apparently Lenovo is under a lawsuit for installing unwanted data collection software. I've already used what isthis? To remove a bunch of bloatware, id's there more I can/should do to make my machine run better and protect my information.

Really anything you guys can tell me about anything would be appreciated, I'm as interested in learning as I am in optimizing my machine. Thanks in advance!

The Y50 isn't much less powerful than my laptop. Tweaking the user.cfg file will help, but it is trial and error. Read every bit of what Goose, Bill Lumbar, Lordred, SmokeyJedi, and myself have posted about that here in the forums and start trying things. You can probably run pretty well with all settings on medium with the Y50 and not have to do anything else honestly, but making tweaks where you can could probably get you a few more fps and a slightly more smooth experience. You might also want to try the core unparking app Goose mentioned in my thread for performance tests. You might want a laptop cooling pad for that Y50, too.

ill just leave this here COPY + PASTE into desktop notepad file desribed below

a starter kit for your Cnfg file/
save simple notepad .txt as user.cfg on desktop and move to MWO folder C:/programfiles/piranhagames/MWO

p_option_ShowCockpitGlass=0 (off/on)
r_DepthOfField=0 (off/on)
r_HDRGrainAmount=0.0 (film grain amount)
r_motionBlur = 0
r_MultiThreaded = 1
cl_fov = 70(Default is 75)

sys_enable_budgetmonitoring = 1
sys_budget_sysmem = **** <---- your ram value in MB

*open command console as admin from start menu- type "winsat mem" and press enter. add values to this chart below....(i left my values to show).
but multiply your value X1024 for systembudgetthroughput*

sys_budget_streamingthroughput = 20560000 (****** X 1024)
sys_LocalMemoryGeometryStreamingSpeedLimit = 20000
sys_LocalMemoryTextureStreamingSpeedLimit = 20000
sys_streaming_max_bandwidth = 20000

sys_budget_videomem = **** (VRAM in MB)

sys_main_CPU = 0
sys_streaming_CPU = 1
sys_physics_CPU = 2

This should put you somewhere decent to start your own seek and destroy mission on lag and general slowness

Thank you guys for all your help. I'll definitely look up those posts you recommended when i get a free chance.
And extra thanks for the copy/paste start point! was looking at user config stuff and hadn't a clue what i was looking at.

Also, killed superfish as recommended, and read up on that. YECH. did not know that was on my machine.

edit: tried opening winsat mem and it runs something that looks dos-ish then closes automatically. i dont get to see any data or have time to click or type anything. also, is that bottom half of the text also supposed to go into the user config? btw definately got a bump up in fps. between 10 and 40 more depending. it kinda swings up and down a lot, whereas it used to be stable. but the low now is higher then the high before so im happy :D

Open a Command Prompt first, then type in "winsat mem" …

MW:O, being a CryEngine game, is threaded all to hell'n gone, then the engine gets hammered by how 'Mechs are big; Smokey is moving some of the threads around to help the loads balance across the CPU …

You probably really need a "sys_MaxFPS = 42" in your user.cfg, too.

Oops I neglected to mention, run command prompt in administrator by right clicking it in start menu.

Than use Winsatmem command to attain values*

What smokey suggested.

Set everything to performance max. On the battery settings - there is a battery saver setting which prevents charging over 80% enable that.

Throttlestop 7.

email me and i'll send you a working copy with a screen shot of the settings.

This program sets teh cpu to run at a defined speed ie 3.1 ghz all the time until throttle thernal kicks in rather than 3.6ghz for a while then throttling hard to 2.4 ghz. Consequently, your fps will be more consistent.

I used to overclock the 860m by 135mhz - 500mhz cpu - ram but it didnt affect mwo fps greatly 1-2 fps and caused a lot more heat.

See my other posts on teh Y50.

you can email me at donnchadhmd athotmailcom blah blah
